this is great. I've only just begun using data sets to make scable designs, but didn't know how to deal with long text automatically and was making different variables for longer data points. This will definitely speed my workflow up, thanks!

Hey Phil, This is a great tutorial however could you take it one step back for those of us not versed in Illustrator. I am having trouble figuring out how to get the template text in. I tried the Area Text like you suggested however the sizing doesn't seem to work out initially and thus the variations don't look right either. Any tips on how to get the initial text area sized with my font etc. would be a huge help. I am doing this in Canva now but I manually resize there and would like to use this automation.
Hello Philip, I appreciate the video it’s very helpful! I am having trouble with something though. Anytime I am making a design where the word I am changing is above another word that is kept the same, it doesn’t readjust the layers to be closer to each other. So most of the designs end up looking not good. Do you have anything to help with this? Also I am having to manually save each individual design after hitting the “batch” option. It’s very long and boring process. Please help
Hi 👋 great video, just great. I have a problem, I did everything but at the moment I try to process the batch… nothing, not even with the illustrator actions. I have the latest version and never had any trouble. Seems weird to me, do you have any insight? I uninstalled the 2024 version and installed several previous ones… nothing
Amazing tutorial! A question for fellow POD sellers… if you are selling hundreds of scalable designs I believe this would get very expensive on Etsy due to their listing fees. What are good platforms to sell scalable designs? I don’t want to post 1000 design listings and then go broke due to listing fees!
Great, informative video as always! Thank you for sharing so many actionable tips. I wanted to ask you a question if that’s alright. Does it make sense to create totally original designs or do similar designs that have already been done but with variations? I really want to be able to upload some ideas that I haven’t seen done before but I’m curious if they would be found.
Sometimes uploading ideas that haven't been done before can be a great potential to get sales easier, in comparison to just creating similar designs of what's already out there. It does help if you try it within a Niche that has potential of course, meaning decent demand and medium to low competition. That's not to say creating similar designs is pointless but you just have to try out both ways and see what works best for you :)

Philip, I don't have your experience with POD. But today I saw a handful of comments from other POD sellers who made very similar warning comments, about uploading a lot of designs to Redbubble. There was a question about uploading the maximum of 60 designs per day to Redbubble. Several comments said that doing so may risk Red seeing that account as a spam account, and could possibly shut down that seller's store (if the Red software is triggered by multiple days of 60 uploads per day or something). Several comments made it sound as if this is a known risk. I am not able to confirm this myself as I am not on Red yet, but wanted to share this with you as you might find it a good topic for a future video on your channel.
Yes it's definitely possible that different marketplaces suppress your listings if they consider your account as spam. In that case it might be smarter to upload smaller amounts even with upload automation

Great instructions - very easy to follow. I did run into an error message that says "Error 8753:invalid text range Line 67 textBox.testRange.characterAttributes.size+inc;" Any ideas what this means and/or what could be causing it???
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I'm new to Ai, but every time I do a Save for Web I get a white background. Despite "Transparent" being selected. If I change my artboard to another color I STILL get white so its not that.
Turns out you need to turn OFF the "Simulate Colored Paper" option which you suggest using in a different video (or maybe I'm confusing you with someone else). Either way you didn't say to turn it ON here soi that's on me, it just sort of became a default setup for me. Anyway turning that OFF let's you export properly. Why it works this way is beyond me. Illustrator seems like such a hot mess compared to Photoshop :(
Thank you Philip for your great sharing. I have a question as I was implementing this bulk designing using Adobe Illustrator. I have used the text area. The long titles worked, as they are shortened nicely. However a shorter names like Actor, Anchor were not stretched to the end left and right. It remained small size. How do I make it stretch to end of both sides so the size is enlarged? Thank you!
the script won't stretch them out it only reduces the size of larger words. I would recommend starting out with a very short word and giving it a big font size that stretches to the sides. That way all short words should be big enough and longer ones will be sized down ;)
There is a way to do this in photoshop, I am just not 100% sure how to export as PNG. But I have been told it's possible. Different process to illustrator however
I have faced a problem. After I imported csv file from variableimporter > then option > assign > then the varable 1 value and veriable 2 value this 2 option dosent showing. How can I solve the problem. I need your help. Do you have any facebook group or teamviewer?

@@moha12m37 The only thing I can think of is that you put the file in the wrong folder. What happens when you type it in fully? Can you not click okay?
@@PhilipAnders Thank you, I tried several times and it was resolved But can you put different pictures with different texts I tried to include in the same file and it didn't work well Can you make a video for us on how to insert different images with different texts so that all the images are the same size within a specific frame or place? We would be very grateful if you would do that for us

I have tried that before but I think I couldn't work out how to save the files in PNG format. Illustrator does it with variable images too but I will save that for another Tutorial :)
