Have you ever wished you could copy yourself?
Well, copying yourself might not always be a great idea, but if you really must, then watch this video until the end to discover four very different ways to achieve this. And I am not talking about cloning or getting children and raising them to be just like you, no I am talking about virtual guides and holograms. We're gonna start with
Nr 1: Volumetric Video
This is a way of actually capturing a moving person in 3D. What you need for this is a studio with a ton of cameras to capture the subject from all angles and a green screen cylinder to chroma key the subject from all sides. It actually works a lot like photogrammetry that I talked about in my previous video, but now you create a 3D scan for each frame in the 3D video.
The end result is very realistic, but it's difficult to create, and renting a studio can be expensive.
So let's go to a less expensive and popular technique, but not before I ask you to subscribe right now because 99% of my viewers aren't subscribed, which is just sad.
Nr 2: chroma keyed virtual guides
Probably the most used and popular technique to place a person in AR or VR is with a chroma key. You place yourself in front of a green screen and using chroma key, the green screen is removed, leaving you with only yourself in a particular place. But did you know it can actually be done without using a green screen?
Tools such as Canva or unscreen, or cut out can remove any background and place a green screen behind it, so that any software can chroma key it.
I am using the Wintor app for this clip, which is a great tool to place and pin virtual guides to physical locations and keep them there. Great if you only have a limited amount of guides in your museum or company for example.
N3. 3D avatars
Another way to copy yourself is to create a super realistically looking 3D avatar. Tools such as ready player me, in 3D and others do this. Let's try in3D. This app can create an avatar in a few minutes and let it dance.
N4. volograms
The last way to copy yourself I wanted to mention is volograms. This technology uses machine learning to create a hologram from a video. The end result is not really detailed, but looks fun and is 3D. It's a very easy way to create this.
Do you know another method of copying yourself without cloning, leave that in the comments and don't forget to subscribe for more AR and VR videos.
