Sooooo u basically made a hikizuri as its that long, I’m a kimono tailor myself and impressed by ur way of making this beautiful piece of art well done! 🎉
Oh that means the world to me! Thank you so much! It is a hikizuri, it was such beautiful fabric I wanted it to look as if it had melted onto the floor! The silk is so fine that when you walk it wouldnt flutter with your steps it would actually float! The sleeves are the same! They actually stay in the air! Another one that I could imagine being made at the Japanese embassy in 17th century Ayutthaya
The slight patterning and the warm gold sheen truly made it magical. It's as if this weave was made to become a kimono. Lovely craft. Do you have a favourite book on kimono or the making thereof?
Jenni Dobsons book for the actual making was very useful. Sheila Cliffe wrote “The Social Life of the Kimono” I know her personally and have learnt most from her. Anna Jackson and “Kimono”is just fab and I love “Japanese Dress in Detail”. I have read as many books as I can about the Kimono and learnt more from each one! Whats your favourite
