Hey everyone! If you're using free textures and the leaf textures don't work (leaves look like a square/rectangle/opacity isn't working), you have to make sure you insert the "translucent" file and "opacity" file (also called "alpha" in some cases). "translucent" goes into the "transmission" section of the BSDF and "opacity" goes into the "alpha" section of the BSDF. Then go into the settings section of the right menu (under the material tab, "Viewport Display" > "Settings" > "Blend Mode" (or just search it), change the setting from "opaque" to "alpha clip". Then it should all work! Sorry if this is a little confusing I'm really awful at explaining stuff lol
I cannot thank you enough this tutorial, is exactly what I needed and nobody seems to have make a tutorial to make fast procedural trees using blender system, awesome
I was just about to give up on making a forest and blender in general as other forest tutorials required you to be a rocket scientist to figure it out! I now have hope!
That's so awesome to hear! I can definitely relate. I'll try to put out some more tutorials covering the subject so you can learn more about it. I'm sure you can make something great!!
Note that if your ground texture not correctly mixed in Cycles/Eevee when rendering (eg. displayed only one of textures.) You should select "Col" value from little dropdown in Color Attribute node (aka Vertex Color node in older versions of Blender)
A small tip : In the branch splitting for white birch tree if you feel like adding more volume to the trees then go to the branch splitting and their you will find branches section, increase the values of that columns it will create more branches without giving too much load on the pc.
This was an incredible tutorial! Are you able to do a tutorial on a larger scale like an open environment just like this one and add some logs, rocks, maybe some water etc? And then either add some animation or export to unreal and make it playable? Learnt quite a bit from this tutorial. Thank you! Can't wait to see more like this.
Super! I am happy to find a person who makes tutorial with free addons! No problem at all if someone is using it, but as a beginner you do not want to pay hundreds just to try something.
there is another way to mix 2 textures, using a new black image and in "texture paint" mode with a white pincel draw the areas you want with the other texture, this image is the image you put in the FAC value in the mix shader
Big big thanks. I knew most of using technical by you, but thanks to you i learn how to combine them in one good looking effect, and you can explain everything in a 100% clear way, so thanks so much, cheers mate!
Your way of teaching is very good and made me follow without stop, your voice is very friendly, your resources are so handy and this tutorial made me happy, will subscribe and follow. But you did not show us the material setup for the leaf. So thankful for your time and hope to see more of your products.
Awesome video! You helped me create my first scene in blender! One problem tho, some of the trees when put onto the forest floor have leaves floating instead of attached to the tree trunks/branches. How would I fix this?
What spec is your PC? I'm having a pretty hard time running these assets on my build (Ryzen 5900x, 64Gb, 3070 GPU)! Seems smooth as hell on your system! Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Cheers, amazing tutorial BTW :D
Sapling does the texture mapping of branches and leaves for you from a material/texture you supply. Not sure why you needed to manually do the UV mapping etc. Also, foliage (pronounced foal-idge) means the leaves of tree/shrub, not the smaller plants growing below the trees, that's the understorey aka undergrowth.
Hi, great tutorial! But I have an annoying issue. Every time when I select another material, like the leaves, the UV editor doesn't update with the new image. I have to manually choose the right image from the top drop down menu.
Heioo I'm a little confused. Why can I use Quixel in Blender? Yeah I tryied once to make a game in unreal engine, but when had I activate this licence? Or is it for free now?
Blender has had an "viewpoint overlays" menu at the top right corner of the screen which allows you to control weight paint overlays. Here, while in a material preview, you can decrease the weight paint opacity slider.
i have (i think) small problem. When i hit render, its starting to synchronize tree 001, tree002, etc and when it finished nothing happends. I just have blank screen and it doesnt render the frames. in the folder when i told blender to send all the frames i just 35kb PDF's which i cant open. Can u plsss help me?
Bro is there any way to add those trees to ground particle system without joining it with the leaves??? Like how can u add both to ground particle system without joining??? Anyone can help me pls???
i noticed that when he exports his clovers and grass, they seem to be already UV unwrapped and look great. How does this happen automatically for him? My experience I have to UV unwrap everything myself and it never lines up so well.
thanks for this tutorial it's defeintely what I was looking for. I have a question though, how do you get your uv when you select your leave to just be a box, when I select my leave i just see a bunch of randomly place quads, so i can't just resize one over the leave normal , like you had. Any suggestions? Anyone?
Thank you! This was one tutorial I spent a lot of time on and really wasn't sure if people would like, but I'm very grateful people have been able to learn so much from it and appreciate it!
As a big tree guy, I got pretty triggered when you said "Douglas F-I-R" and referred to it as a pine lol. Douglas-firs (pronounced fur) are not the same as pines :) Awesome tutorial btw
I'm pretty sure he's using a sky texture for the world. Under world properties, color, open the dropdown, select sky texture and when that applies, go for the Nishita preset. Then you can play around with the new properties there.
I didn’t check to see if this question was already asked, but I noticed that the leaf texture you downloaded features 4 leaves, but you only use one. How best to use all 4 textures and somehow randomize them over the leaf polygons of the SAME tree? If this question can only be answered in another video, I would vote for a video like that! Thank you for your great tutorial videos!
@@anshmahagade349 yes, I was curious to know if there was a way to use all four leaves in the texture image and randomize the output, so it makes the trees look more organic, less cookie cutter.
I already had this figured out. The opacity of the materials I'm importing aren't actually importing in the nodes. Now I'm stuck with the Weight Paint feature. It's not painting any red. Every section I get a roadblock. 😁
