In this tutorial, we will learn how to animate a rigged car using the free RigACar addon and a free 3d car model from Traffiq. This follows on from the Car Rigging tutorial, and starts with a pre-rigged car asset! We cover some advanced car animation technique including changing the car's speed with the graph editor, and using the drift and suspension controls to add realistic drifting to the car.

another way to stop your car slowing down without going into graph editor is to select the end frame, right click, select interpolate frame and select linear. However i have found out that in blender 3.3 by setting the ground sensors, it pushes your axies and wheels under the plane

Like render each cam footage separately and combine them or is there an option to do that in a single render Also how did you make that camera shake? That looked so real as if someone had a handheld cam...

Hey man! Thank you for that awesome tutorial, I was actually looking for a car animation like this, so it was great to see this video. I also bought the project file on gumroad, thanks for offering it. I got a little question, though. I am still somewhat of a newbie to render. I tried to replace the skoda with another rigged car, it was easy to retarget the movement via parents etc. But i still wasnt really able to transfer the animation to the new car, so that i would be able to delete the skoda completely. I could animate the new car easily but s the cameras use to follow the camera path and are set up to match the skoda animation, it would be a lot easier to be able to transfer the modifiers. Is there an easy way to copy and paste the folow-path constraint? It would help me a lot!

Hey Moelle! Thanks for your kind feedback!! If you select the model you want to change, and then shift-click the model you want the modifiers from, you then press CTRL+L and hit link modifiers. I think that will work? Good luck!! 👍

what i did is got the separated parts of the car and I parented the parts of the new car o the parts of the old car, but I then hid the old parts so you could only see my new car. Also, brilliant video

Thank you very much for this tutorial. I'm trying to animate a car with camber. But because of the camber, even tilting the manipulators parallel to the wheels, they continue to rotate along a horizontal axis. Is there a solution to modify the axis of rotation of the manipulators so that the wheels rotate correctly? Thanks

I have question: I have a rigged car, the "Base" [in Pose Mode] has a "Follow Path" Bone Constraint and is following a BezierCurve. The problem; When I change the vertical elevation of a vertex on the BezierCurve (to add a ramp animation), the car will rotate for unknown reason. How can I fix this issue (unless this is not specific enough?)? Will I need to keyframe the car's rotation to counter the effect? Thanks. Sorry for the bad English.

Hi m3Dtm Lizard! I looked into this a lot! However, I couldn't find an easy solution that I could teach in a tutorial. All my methods were taking over an hour to teach! So I didn't think it would make a good tutorial. Maybe in the future.

I'm curious regarding the Editorial License of Traffiq. Did you need to obtain permission to use for your videos or is making videos for YT acceptable without required permission and possibly any additional fees if one was to make money from the video? Thanks

I'm not a lawyer, but you can use these models for editorial use, as far as I know, without additional permission.

You'll need to adjust the light material in the shader editor. Increase the emission strength. It will only show in cycles. Hope that helps!

Hey Leo, I love your tutorails, A few months ago i followed your tutorail and i downloaded the rigacar addone, at that time it was working perfectly, but now when i add rigacar addon in my lastest blender version, its not showing in the tab, just like with blender kit, view, item, Why its not visible there, therefore i cant use it or to create some car drifting tutorials.

Hi Salazar! Yes it will - the ground sensors will make the suspension move up and down in a realistic way. Try adding some displacement to the road to see.

Sounds like your motion path is not flat. Go through the points of the curve, and see what the z position is. I think you can select them all, press S to scale, then Z for Z axis, and finally 0 (zero) to reset them all on the Z axis. Hope that helps!

Did anyone actually follow this? When I use to "procedural 2 lane road profile" I can't tab into edit mode. There isn't even option for edit mode when I clickon the road

Hey R S. When you import from BlenderKit, you need to make sure import settings are set to append, and not link. Then you'll be able to edit the model.

@@MediaWayUKLtd Yes sir that's what I did. I just tried again to double check. Still not letting me do anything in edit mode. There is also no HDRI option for me either. So I can't add a background. Maybe I've done something wrong :/

OK... So open a new empty Blender file. Import the road from Blenderkit. Click the road, so it has an orange line around it. Press TAB to go into edit mode. You should see the black dots of the vertices at one end of the road. Click and drag around the vertices on one side of the road, press G to grab and see if you can move them. Does that help?

If the world goes pink, that usually means that Blender has not linked to the HDRI properly. Try linking it again? Or go through relinking the file. Hope that helps!
