This video is part of a continuing series on creating a long term conflict for your player characters. The village of Rodenburr has been harassed by night attacks by mysterious figures in robes and hoods. No one yet knows that these are orcs led by the brilliant chieftain Kurok, using tactics to divide and conquer the village. The players will investigate and discover this large conflict that is about to erupt.
Using Dungeondraft software to create the village, I show how to use the trace feature to get a sense of proportion and scale from an existing map that I download from the internet. My goal is to create the map quickly, and using another map as a guide helps this process.
I show how using the free drawing software GIMP you can scale the downloaded image so that the scale of the map matches the grid in Dungeondraft. This way the players can interact with the map in a digital platform such as Roll20 or Fantasy Grounds.
First I lay out the roadmap of the town, then add structures around the village square using objects that I got from 2 Minute Tabletop. They are very affordable and work well when scaled.
I then create two other areas of structures, then give some atmosphere to the map by making it literally carved from the rocks which form the nearby Barren Hills. I use the scatter tool to quickly develop the surrounding countryside.
When the map is finished I export it as a JPG image, then bring it into Fantasy Grounds and match the grid size. The map is ready to use in my campaign!

Looks like a great village to defend with all that stone, but I guess you've got to know it coming. Nice work again, looking forward to how it pans out. Cheers

Thanks totsy. I'm thinking if I refine this map, and make several more for encounters, I can create paths through the stones that will almost be like trenches. And I'm going to create a vineyard so those will be obstacles/cover as well.

Thank you for this. It took a while for me to get it to work right. I used Krita to import the file from google images and then to resize the photo. Now I have a template for my Elven Village. This is going to be a lot of fun... So many encounters, so little time....

So glad I could help David. I should probably go slower to make it very clear, but I always worry the video will be too long.

@@DDHomebrew The pace was perfect. I watched it through after you posted it the other day, then I bought the product, then I said to myself, "How did you do that?" So I used pause a lot while re-watching. Most of my troubles came from the Krita product. Really enjoying your videos. Cheers!

I like your vids. Easy to follow steps well organized and inspiring to give it a try for one´s own adventures. On a side note: You did find "Forgotten Adventures" which do have Dungeondraft Intregration? I write this just in cased you missed it - was the best thing to add to dungendraft for me.

So this is a mostly very informative video except for what was to me the most important part - it looks like the building assets you're using from 2minutetabletop are designed for Wonderdraft, not dungeondraft. How did you manage to import them into dungeondraft? I bought and downloaded the pack but dungeondraft doesn't want to use it.

@DDHomebrew 3 года назад
Tom, I used the guide that 2minutetabletop provides (2minutetabletop.com/beginners-guide-to-dungeondraft-custom-assets/) to create the custom assets folder and put the .dungeondraft_pack into that folder. I then went into dungeondraft, clicked on the Assets tab at the outset and found that folder and clicked it. I think I had to reboot dungeondraft so that it loads every time. You can also contact 2minutetabletop: I emailed them about my video and they responded quickly.

@@DDHomebrew Loved the video but I am still missing something basic. I bought the Wonderdraft Town & City Assets Pt.2 through your link, updated DungeonDraft and went through the 2 Min Table Top Beginner's Guide a couple of times. It keeps referring to ".dungeondraft_pack" but I do not see that file. Any suggestions?

@@KevinCork Sorry I took so long Kevin; the holidays have been killing me! The assets in the Town & City collection are only png files: you have to create your own ".dungeondraft_pack" file. 1) Create a directory, using the same structure and names as the example directory. Put your png files into the object sub-directory. So I might call it town/textures/objects/. 2) Then go into Dungeondraft and look in the Menu tab, you'll see Package Custom Assets at the bottom. Go to the main subdirectory, in this case town, and give the package a name: say Town_One. When you hit the package tab, Dungeondraft will create a file called Town_One.dungeondraft_pack. 3) You can then place Town_One.dungeondraft_pack in it's own subdirectory, along with any other dungeondraft_pack files you create, and load them all as assets using that subdirectory. I hope that makes sense.

I'm not sure if 2-minute has changed their packages since I made this video. Here are some that are similar: 2minutetabletop.com/product/town-city-tokens/ 2minutetabletop.com/product/wonderdraft-town-city-map-assets-3/
