After watching like my 4th video of yours I just went and bought your bundle of classes. Yours are by far the easiest and most useful vids I have seen for inkscape. Super thankful I just happened to find em.
A less destructive method for cutting out parts of the letters, and without the need to convert them to paths, is to create the same duplicate shape used in the difference operation and convert it into a black mask area. Add a white area for the visible parts, group the two, and apply the group as a mask to the text. Same result basically which can be edited later on.
Long time no see Nick. I have question, when you create a written article for this tutorial, are you creating the video tutorial first or write off the article first? Because I try to create the same content as you but confuse on how to define the workflow. Thanks Nick!
Hello Nick I want to thank you for all your videos, all the ones I've watched were great, I do have a question, not sure if you could look at it, I created a design by accident, while playing around with Inkscape trying to learn it several years ago when I first started watching your videos, but I have dug up the design again but I can't remember for the life of me how I got the letters to blend together with two different colors,
Your videos has taught me so much about inkscape , thank you so much ! I'm having a issue now though that hopefully you can help me with . For some reason it stopped saving my preferred settings . I Uninstalled and installed the latest version and when I first try to open it it still has a pop-up saying it will not save my preferred settings . It says " the preferences file c : /users/lewiepc/appdata/roaming/inkscape/preferences.xml is not a valid xml document. Inkscape will run with default settings, and new settings will not be saved." I hadn't changed any settings before it started doing this . It just started doing it one day . If you or anyone has a fix I'd really appreciate it 🙂
Why did you use break apart and not stroke to path? And also, at 10:00, why did you make the rectangle narrower from both sides separately instead of holding shift?
Whit the new version of Inkscape You can change the icons from few available also You can now have dark theme and change page colors. So yeah download the newest stable version and see for yourself 😉
1) add path. 2) path: stroke to path. 3) path: break apart (?). 4) object: ungroup. 5) path: union. Why step #3? I created a simple triangle. Duplicated it. Then did both sequences except on one I skipped #3 and it seemed like both objects behaved the same.
Hi, I like your channel but for some reason my Inkscape has a bug. When I select the text tool, I can't change the kerning manually, so I have to change it with the pre-destined numbers. For example if I want 20, I'd have to go from 0,1,2,3,4.... until reaches 20. I think it is a monitor problem (I use a TV with 1024x768), so I use Inkscape compacted which is recommend for small screens, it made more icons appear but the kerning still is not visible to use manually. When I say manually I refer to change the number precisely, so if I want 30 I type in 30 and then I get what I want. Your Inkscape menu has a bunch of space, could you tell me what monitor you use?
You chose to move each letter one by one for the "design" word. Would it make sense to use spacing instead ? Is it just an habit or a kind of artistic approach that my technical mind can't proceed ^^ ? Or is there a specific reason that makes this option irrelevant in this case ? Nice to see the new inkscape version BTW
Plus, you have better control if you move letters by hand. Logo text doesnʼt airways work like usual text, it's more like a graphic (here the modifications with the letter S create a new situation), so the automatic kerning might not result in what your eye wants.

@@sheaulle indeed minor adjustments are often required I totally understand that. As an absolute non-artistic kind of person, having proportional change is the option that came to my mind as a first draft. My question was more to know if there was some kind of unwanted behaviour that will happen by using spacing.
@Loïk Menard the one way I can think of is that the using spacing works for the whole word. But there will be cases when it won't be enough. For example: you are making logo with a word "STAR" now look at the T and A letters: (RU-vid font ia actually a bad example) letter T is wider at the top while letter A i wider at the bottom that makes illusion the space between them is actually bigger and to make it look good you need to adjust it. Nick had article about it if I find it I'll link it. In this video I think it's just a habbit though 😁
For file type and size you should ask your shop where you want to print your design. Scale your design in Inkscape to the desired size and make shure that every text is converted to paths.
Same problem as in the how to design a logo in inkscape. However this time I was able to do stroke to path > break apart once however the second time it is needed again it says there are no paths to break apart in the selection???? Can someone help please? Thanks
hey nick im working with gimp very well plz do some gimp tutorials and I got a problem in Inkscape i need to set up my tools like yours and I wanna know are there any tutorials to set up my toolbar like yours in master class
hey Nick am big fan of your channel and i learned a lot from you over the years but a simple a question and hope y have an answer for me for the video that you made regarding the GTA animation using gimp and using that G'MIC Plugin i have noticed that am missing a lot of DLL files were i can find them all so i can install it please am tired every time of searching for each one or just installing the last gimp will solve the problem? thank you nick for taking your time and reading my answer!! PS: your link is dead regarding the page that explain how to install the necessary items needed to make the animated GTA image.
Sounds like you're having some kind of major operating system incompatibilities or something. The only solution I can think of is to download all of the needed DLL files.
I'm loving the tutorial yet it could be better if you had a short 2min tutorial about importing fonts at the beginning of the main tutorial that would explain the fundamentals for beginners while giving them an edge in time that accommodates for the beginner, intermediary and expert. Only difference would be that the beginners might have to repeat the tutorial more times than the intermediaries and experts, before they find themselves on that degree of graphics.
