Don't forget, if you are modelling something with bolts in it you probably only need the head because the rest of the bolt will be hidden inside your model, so cut off the shank and thread to reduce the poly count. A default bolt has 1,063 verts, 1,080 faces and 2,090 tris. With a bit of cleaning up I got this down to 148 verts, 139 faces and 270 tris for a head only. If you are creating a lot of bolts around panels this can make a great deal of difference to the speed of your renders. similarly if you are creating nuts with bolt threads poking out you only need the bit of the bolt thread which you can see and you can get rid of the thread inside the nut because you won't see it. Obviously if you are animating a nut going onto or coming off a bolt, or else a bolt being unscrewed from a hole you would need to keep whatever you are going to see.

Thanks for the info! Yes, if your making something where you can't see the screw part, then its best to delete it. 👍‍

You are a great instructor... I truly appreciate the time you put into your tutorials... You have helped me understand a host of things... That I once saw as alien instructions... I am still trying to master geometry nodes... Without taking a class... Nonetheless, I have come to the realization that I will have to fork over some dollars... Just so someone can tell me what has been right there in front of me... Thanks for sharing...

If you clone the initial bolt and turn it into a nut, will it fit? Do the threads match? I will also print it if it's that easy to match the bolt and nut.

Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah! I already know what to do with this for one of my scenes! Hey Ryan! If you're open to feedback, now that you have a bunch of different types of tutorials, it might be cool to do one where you combine a few of your old tutorials to make a new project that shows how they can be mixed to make something original. For example if you took one of your old furniture tutorials and applied some of the procedural texturing and overlays (fingerprints, dust etc) along with general lighting/rendering tips, to make a "standard prop" into one that looked thematic for a particular style. Such as if you turned a barstool into a cyberpunk barstool, or a bookshelf into a steampunk bookshelf, or a desk into a noir crime-scene desk. Just throwing ideas out there, although I'm sure you have plenty. Thanks again!
@BurnEdOutOne
@BurnEdOutOne 2 года назад
Another thing might make a good video is Gobos. How you can make a scene seem way more dynamic just by putting some geometry in front of a light source that hints at other things outside of the frame, like a "tree foliage" gobo, or a "bare branches" gobo, or a "spinning fan" gobo, or a "barred window" gobo. Open discussion to new gobo ideas! That would seem like a neat 10-20 minute video that people could take and apply to a lot of different projects. Plus I haven't seen one like that on any other blender channels.
@BurnEdOutOne

*Bubba Gump Shrimp voice* : Cobweb gobo... Spiderweb gobo... Flying bat gobo... Flying bird gobo... Giant snowflake gobo... You gobo the idea.

What's the difference between using the Edge Split modifier like you've done and using Auto Smooth Normals (under Object Data Properties)? They seem to have the same effect for me...
@RyanKingArt
@RyanKingArt 2 года назад
Actually, I'm pretty sure they do the same thing. So you could use that instead if you want. : )
@bertilorickardspelar
@bertilorickardspelar 11 месяцев назад
@@RyanKingArt Actually, I think that unlike the Edge Split modifier the Auto Smooth Normals option will NOT split the geometry which can be important if you are doing anything that requires a continuous manifold mesh without holes.

Great tutorial, as always. The default dimensions are huge. When I select a "metric" standard, for example: M10 the size is CRAZY. How can I correct this defect?

just scale the objects way down, after you've made them. Then press Control A, and apply the scale.

i saw it in meter so do i need to scale it down manually? cuz no option
@kogemiartour
@kogemiartour Год назад
oh i found it from chatgpt To change the units in Blender to millimeters (mm), follow these steps: Open Blender and go to the "Scene" tab in the Properties window (located on the right side of the screen). Under the "Units" section, change the "Unit System" to "Metric". Next, change the "Length" unit to "Millimeters". If you want to make this the default setting for all new Blender files, click the "Save User Settings" button at the bottom of the Properties window. You can now create and edit your objects in millimeters. To verify that you are working in millimeters, you can check the dimensions of your objects in the "Transform" panel in the Properties window or by selecting the object and going to the "Object Data Properties" tab and looking at the "Dimensions" section. Note: If you have already created objects in Blender and want to convert them to millimeters, you can select the objects and go to the "Object" menu at the top of the screen, choose "Apply," and then select "Scale." This will apply the current scale to the object and convert it to millimeters.
