Create, Open/Save & Import/Export in IDS 

In IDS, there are several file types we work with. An image file to create an embroidery design which we use the Create function. An IDS file which is a design file that holds all the original information about the design such as the stitch type, density, underlay style, etc. This file format has unlimited editing capability. And finally a stitch file format - such as DST - which is a command file. To create a stitch file, we export the design. You can always save and export so that you have the 2 main file types. We suggest always saving an IDS file to do any editing to the embroidery design.
