You are one of the best communicators on RU-vid (or any video platform). You are clear, precise, and jam pack your videos with practical examples that make it so easy to absorb and retain what you're teaching. I really hope you're teaching in real life too ... young fashion students would love your teaching style, I reckon 😍🤩

@@StaceWah I used "offhand" as an adjective, with the meaning of "informal" as in: Justine is teaching the young woman I know informally, since I forward her videos as a way to teach [the fashion design student] while I don't believe Justine intends these videos to be used in a classroom. I hope that makes better sense as I certainly meant no offense.

I agree! Every colour can have a cold and a warm version, even red and blue. I found the video on colour theory by AlexandrasGirlyTalk more informative, because she did not simply split the colour wheel in half, she showed the dimension of every colour.

That's what I was taught in middle school. 3 primary colors, magenta, cyan and yellow, that you can mix among them and with black and white. I have always thought of red and green as a mix with different percentage of magenta and yellow, with a tiny cuantity of blue, for red, and a mix in different percentages of cyan and yellow with a tiny cuantity of magenta for green. So, using different percentages of colors I have realized that my particular mix of skin, eyes and hair colors is more flattered when I move over the section of color wheel with the lowest percentage of yellow. That makes the small cuantity of yellow in my skin stand out, match with my eyes (lots of yellow in them) and hair (ashy, ashy, ashy, but also with yellow in it), and look more balanced overall. At least is the way I finally reached to understand after years of auto-observation and reading and watching experts on that matter. In conclusion, to simplify it all for me, I focus in yellow, avoiding it on what I wear to enhance it on my skin and balance wit hair and eyes. Tricky, huh?
@athag1
@athag1 2 года назад
@@lafandenuel5605 That’s amazing that you were able to arrive at this on your own! If you watch the Merriam Style channel, her approach is almost opposite, but maybe it’s like cracking an egg from two different ends - in the end you get the same result…

I’m a cool toned, fair skinned, silver haired person of Irish descent and I’ve been WAITING for this video. My big takeaway is the warm accent genius idea. I have always worried in summer that cool pastel tones feel weak and too ultra feminine and I have to admit I’ve been a wee bit envious of my warm toned friends that can rock orange and sunny yellows. Adding an accent piece in the warm palette is the perfect solution! THANK YOU JUSTINE!!

Yay! I love that you called me "cool people"! I have slight olive undertones and can wear some of those "border" and darkened hues (red purple, burgundy, mulberry, eggplant) pretty well, but if they start taking on their warmer utterances (maroon, tomato red) my skin immediately looks blotchy and my under eye area becomes very blue and looks hollow. Both dark and bright purple-pinks (fuchsia, raspberry, hot pink, magenta) make my eyes sparkle, not so with peachy-pinks, corals, or pale cherry blossom pinks. Green is flattering, too, as long as it's not dark olive, khaki, absinthe, or chartreuse. And most blues are complimentary (navy, cerulean, wedgwood, chambray, cyan, teal, indigo, cobalt) against the high contrast of my skin and hair/eyes, as long as they are not too pastel (light turquoise, lavender blue). I feel those drain the color in my skin and sort of "float" on my body, like they don't belong on me. I loved this video (and all of your other videos!) Thank you!

Hey Justine, I'm going to add to the olive toned voices in the comments. My skin is yellowish going to a golden brown when I tan. My veins show green, blue and purple and I prefer cool tones but can and definitely enjoy warm tones. Loved the video ! One trick I learned from a color consultant is that you don't have to wear only what suits you, you just have to control the place where the color touches your skin and wear what you like elsewhere. You can cheat ! For instance, I am cool-toned, but I like and wear a lot of black. I just never let black be next to my skin. If I wear head-to-toe black, I make sure I have a cool scarf between the black top and my skin, so the transition is smooth and more harmonious. I also use blazers to the same effect; or color-block warm bottoms with cool tops (this is more tricky but also a lot of fun), especially in winter, where I wear gloves and closed-toe shoes. I happen to like the "pop effect" produced by mixing warm and cool tones; but it has to be done with caution and subtlety. Make-up and accessories are my (shy) best friends !

I love how simply you explain it. I’m cool winter and fuschia/magenta is my signature colour. I also wear deep garnet red. I prefer the pinks and purples over the the blues and green. I bought some clothes online recently that weren’t the colour I expected…. I’ll be adding a blue dye to balance the red and green to a more cool tone 😊

Hi Justine! A wonderful and useful video as always! Things happen and plans change, but I would be so happy if you made that video about neutrals and which suite for warm and cool undertones resepctively. I think I already know a bit, as many of the lovely honey, caramel and camel tones don't quite work on my cool (but relatively neutral) undertone, and for instance taupe works much better. I love cosy browns, but could really use a guide. Also different greys would be good to know. Thanks so much for your channel!

Hi Justin! I’ve been following your channel for over 2 years now and I enjoy every one of your video. I have learned so much from you! This video so far is my favorite because I can personally relate to it. My wardrobe has exactly the colors you used in the color palette but I still feel like I have nothing to wear. Now I’m inspired by this video and am definitely gonna start creating fun outfits. Thank you so much ♥️ looking forward to your next video 👍👍

I have been trying to learn about temp of color as far as interior design. This was very helpful. I've never heard the tip that taking those colors with a dark shade will help them go together, as well as light tints. Thank you!

Thank you for this video! What’s your view on the temperature of red? I have cool tone, and was told I can wear ‘Blue Red’, which looks like ‘True Red’ to me. What exactly does “Blue Red” mean?

Yes, I would also like to know this! Thank you Justine for making this interesting video! I am cool toned as well, but learned from other sources and my own experience that bright red and fuchsia pink also are good colours. I would love to know your view on this!

Unfortunately I think people use the term two ways: 1) a red with a blue hue, 2) red with no yellow (true red). However I think 100% "true" primary colours can be pretty difficult to avhieve with the pigments available for makeup, so usually you end up with blue red, even if it is relatively true.

I know what you mean, I think. I am a cool tone gal and a blue red looks amazing on me. Any other kind of red looks awful.

I’m a neutral though told I’m warm, was classified as a deep winter. Gem tones-Purple, purple with red, dark magenta, and that blue green you use as an example are my “power colors” and look best on me. I’ve built a neutralish wardrobe around a couple of these colors but occasionally buy a warm piece (pink in my skin blends with reds and looks good, weirdly). When I got my report from my professional draping, I was enlightened to learn what you just taught-that a light warm color looks great as an accent, exactly like that lemon ice color you used in your palette. I’d never think of it on my own, but it does look great! You’re always so eloquent and elegant, Justine.

I'm usually a warm undertone person but I do wear some of these colors too, especially in the greens. Maybe because I'm a red hair! I do use different intensity of the hue, and BTW thank you because I own a clear jeans and a light green shirt so I'm looking forward to trying the outfit you show at the beginning. 😊 Thank you for the info as always!

@@katerinahuskova4596 I agree. These theories are more like guidelines, ultimately it comes down to personal preference. Life's too short to wear things that we don't like.

Cool-toned colors are my favorite! I find them very flattering for my complexion/coloring. I wish more online stores would give detailed color descriptions for some of those "border" colors like purple & green, it would make shopping much easier!

Such helpful tips here - I love this channel! I have also learned [from working with colour expert Jen Vax] that it is also really important to determine whether you suit bright, clear colours or soft, muted colours. If you are dark and cool, you might suit, for example, bright deep fuchsia, cobalt and dark, clear emerald vs soft raspberry, soft navy and soft deep green. Similarly for medium and light colouring. So interesting!

Thank you! This palette looked quite similar to my wardrobe: cool greens are my most flattering colour and I have worked outward from there. In response to your question about why there are more cool toned people watching your channel, I can only speak from my own experience, but I haven't been well-served by make-up counters in shops, etc, in the past, so I have a strong interest in the topic. There has been a tendency to try to convince me that warm-toned foundations and colour makeup look good on me, probably because that was all that was available. Actually, they make me look ill! Luckily, I was correctly identified as having cool skin while I was in my teens, even though I have dark brown eyes and there are some warm tones in my hair. So I could stand my ground when people tried to put me into terracotta or mustard which looked awful on me but great on my warm-toned mother.

Waiting for the neutral colors video! I’m learning a lot. As a cool tone it’s very hard to find cool beiges here. Today I looked at a beautiful chemise but it was warm beige. I’m gonna look sick wearing that. I’m a fan of lighter colors but I’m a deep winter pallete. And it’s also hard to find light cool blues or lavender, most are warm. The problem with knowing more of these things is that it becomes harder to find good clothes

I have been professional colour analysed and it was worth every penny. I am a Cool Summer .... But when I allowed my real hair colour to come through, it turned out I am pure white silver these days. This has meant that some of the Winter colours work for me as well and fortunately this now means that I can wear both white and black very successfully. I found organising my colours made life incredibly easy when shopping. Yellow doesn't suit you? Then don't waste your time looking. This is well worth a watch!
