In this video we cover how to setup your own free email server in just a few minutes. In this video we user Cyberpanel to do this, which is a great free email panel that is easy to setup and use.
This is a great video for anyone who wants to learn how to create their own email server, or just needs to set up an email server for testing purposes. We cover how to create an email server for a webmail client, a simple mail client, or a POP3/IMAP4 server. We also cover how to setup email for sending SMTP mail for your applications like WordPress.
Note there are some VPS providers may not allow email by default as a security measure, but will unblock it if you request it through support. So check with your provider if you run into any issues.
I've covered setting up Cyberpanel from the command line a few times on the channel too, e.g.

Vultr had a one click installer which saves a few steps, but really the command line method is just a single command and selecting a few options (takes about 1 extra minute).

What you can do is setup sendinblue (free for 300 emails sent per day) and use gmail. Do everything the same but instead of using the cyber panel credentials for smtp, use sendinblue.

Hey Alex, As usual, some of the easiest to follow instructions for some of the trickiest projects, you are a legend kind sir! Anyone figured out if it’s possible and how to set up a vultr/cyberpanel with several web domains and a second vultr/cyberpanel with tge matching email domains? Just a quick questions, with VPS you are using Vultr, but I've noticed it only support window server, if I only have windows 10, can I still use Vultr or there is another alternative available? Also dose Cyberpanel support window?, or else what other SMTP server can I use for windows 10?

Hey Alex, thanks for your help. Previously, I connected my Vultr server with Namecheap using nameserver (using Custom DNS) but due to not setting up a domain email, I had to go back Namecheap basic DNS which gave me the option to add records. I added all the A, CNAME, MX record like you showed in the video. I did add DMARC, domainkey as well but didn't find default.domainkey TXT record. What should I do now? and If I skip adding default.domainkey TXT record, will I face any difficulties? Thanks

Such a great video, but it doesn't seem to work anymore. Emails no longer send. Looks like others are having similar issues. I tried Vultr and Digital Ocean, followed the steps exactly, but no luck. Would you be able to check and see if this still works for you? Thanks!

Hi, great video but just wondering why you set up all the A Recodes and MX and txt recordes, I have seen other do custom name servers. What are Pros and cons to this way.

if your server crashes, has downtime, mainteance or whatever, you can restore a backup and point your external DNS onto another IP and save the day :), if your email is external then your email wont even be affected too & your websites will be back up in a few minutes at worst - but if your self hosted dns goes down too? you're screwed, no websites, no email 😬😬can take many hours for a new DNS to propagate to the ISPs around the world. Also, security wise its pretty easy to DDOS a little VPS off the net, but very hard take out a big place like namecheap, cloudflare etc

I tried to follow this with my existing cyberpanel installation on oracle cloud, but the mails just arent working, No mails get sent and no incoming mails show up in the web client, maybe i need to allow some ports from the oracle instance settings ? im not sure :(

10/10 and server working as a charm but gmail SPAM folder. I'm guessing gmail or outlook are getting this emails in spam because they want their cake part.

Thanks for sharing this Alex. I was able to set everything except the reverse DNS, since I'm using AWS EC2. Now, I'm able to receive emails but not send them. I guess it's because of the rDNS. How can I achieve that please? Thanks a lot.

Same method just add another website for the domain, then add emails - only needs one of them on the reverse dns

Hello, thank you for the video. I was able to get through with the setup but I observed that I can't send an email. I can receive an email but whenever I send an email, it doesn't go through for some reason. Am I missing something even though I followed you video to the very letter?

Don't bother anymore. I was able to have it resolved by contacting Vultr support to unblock port 25 on the server and that was it. Thank you once again for this lovely video.

I’ve been testing this - it works but isn’t reliable out of the box since there’s no reverse dns… but, we can link it up to a relay smtp through sendinblue or mail jet, and it works better (google: setup postfix smtp relay)

@@IdeaSpot haha. After the oracle support got back to me (took them over a week) I reconfigured may postfix today to use smtp relay via mailjet. Good on you for doing the hard learnings I had to go through for others 💪

I successfully setup a server on cwp with ip rotation while sending emails but I could only add 4 ip addresses to it because my domain provider allow only 4 A records I want to add more ip how can I add more than 4 to server ?

17:30 when i try sending test email i got error said Misconfigured server certificate. This means OpenSSL on your server isn't able to verify the host certificate. There are a few reasons why this is happening. It could be that the host certificate is misconfigured, or this server's OpenSSL is using an outdated CA bundle. Recommended next steps: Verify that the host's SSL certificate is valid. Contact your hosting support, show them the "full Error Log for debugging" below and share this link with them. how can i fix ?

My email is currently hosted by an online provider, they also maintain the domain. What would be the order of process to move the domain name to Namecheap and setup the VPS with cyber panel? Very nice tutorial...

hello ! i loved the video! easiest sub in my life , question however, why did you keep namecheap DNS and not redirect the DNS to cyberpanel? i basically ended up creating DNS servers and redirected namecheap domain to my two DNS ns1 and ns2 ... without putting all the records ... did i do it in an inefficient manner?

Sir.... my mail goes in to SPAM in gmail, and when I check original even I see all tests PASSED. Then why is it going into spam. Any idea. Also I am running cyberpanal on ubuntu on VMWare. Dont think that could be the reason. As mails are coming .... please guide ...

I am using Cloudflare as a DNS manager. In Cloudflare, I had to turn on 'proxy' for everything to work as intended. All my 'A' records are proxied by Cloudflare. In that process, I have proxied the 'A' record for mail. It looks like - Type - A, Name - mail, IPv4 Address - my main IP address Do I have to turn off 'proxy' for this mail 'A' records for emails to work properly?

Yes in the cloudflare free plan you need to turn it off for the mail server

If you change the reverse name to a domain name in vultr, then what happens when you add mutiple domain names under that 1 vultr account? I have 3 domains and I want to set up mail for all 3 domains. If I change the reverse DNS to one of those domains, what happens to the other 2 domains when I set up the emails? Thank you

It only needs to be set for the one domain you are using as the mail server, and set a spf record for the other domains 👍

@@IdeaSpot thank you for the prompt response. Unfortunately, Vultr will not grant a port 25 if you are sending newsletters. I had to go a different route. Therefore, I am not using Cyber Panel as an email service of any kind. Thank you!

yes, there are only a few places that can reliably do newsletters, amazon SES, brevo, sendgrid, mailjet, mailchimp - it's a technically difficult niche. Good luck
