Parameter IDs are an important feature of SAP ERP and SAP S/4HANA. They provide an efficient way to automatically load frequently used values into input fields. This means that an SAP user does not have to manually enter values into the fields every time they execute a transaction or create a document. Instead, the fields are automatically filled with the appropriate default values, saving time and reducing errors. In addition, parameter IDs can display functions in a transaction and change maximum values.
For example, a parameter ID can be used to automatically fill in the company code in an A/P invoice. The user does not have to enter the company code manually each time; it is inserted automatically.
A large number of parameter IDs already exist in SAP ERP and SAP S/4HANA. The parameter IDs are stored in table TPARA. If you call the Data Browser (transaction SE16N) and enter the table TPARA, you get an overview of all parameter IDs in the SAP system.

Table TPARAT contains the short texts for the storage IDs. The parameter IDs for each user are stored in table USR05. This makes it easy to determine which SAP user has maintained which parameters.
