Thank you. This is just what I've been looking for. I left a comment on the other video where you show how to sew this dart.

This was so clear, thank you. If I've cut the bottom of a shirt off at the waist to add in a French dart, how do I add the bottom of the shirt back on?

Measure your original pattern from the waist seam to work out how much extra length you need from the waistline to the lower edge. Measure the distance from the side seam to the centre front to determine the width of the shirt. Draw the centre front straight down to the length required. Measure across from this point using the measurement you took from your original pattern and then draw a line straight across from the centre front to the side seam, the width required. Join this point to the bottom of the French dart. Check the length of the side seam when the dart is closed. You will probably need to adjust the length of the side seam and then curve this slightly from the side seam to the lower edge. I hope that helps. 😊

I’m a newbie sewer and I would love to see a video tutorial using your body measurements to draw a block bodice pattern. I’ve see plenty but still don’t understand because they use cm measurements instead of inches. I would like to see step by step what exact measurement is to where to draw that line block. And because they don’t show the body measurements to draw the line of the block. They just assume you know how to draw a block.

Hi gladtidings4all - I’ll have to add that to my list of videos to make! I’m trying to deliver an online course to my students now we’re in lockdown... they’ve already made the block and we’re working through techniques to adapt it. I’ll come back to make a video on how to draft the block at a later date. 😊

Hi there thanks for this video. I never knew french darts were a thing. Question ⁉️ if I am making a dress would I simply trace my whole pattern and draw in the french dart or so I first do the French dart and then carry on with the bottom half of the dess

Hi 👋- if you’re making a dress, start with the bodice part, create the French dart and then continue to extend the side seams to add the lower part of the dress

@@HouseofMissSew It's not clear to me how to add the lower part of the dress (or, in my case shirt) once it's cut at the waistline to insert the French dart. How do I get the angle of the side of the shirt right? Thank you.

This tutorial is awesome!! Would this work method work if the bust dart is on the side of the bodice?

Thank you! - yes this will work, you can just move both darts to the same position and combine their size. 😊
