I am planning on doing some bonnet constructions videos. Virginia and Ophelia will probably be first.

I've been searching a lot for information on how they created the big ostrich plumes at the end of the 19th century and there is not much you can find. However I do know that they shaved off the top and the bottum of the stems of the feathers that were stacked . They also starched and steamed the feathers to give them more volume. How exactly they did this is still a mystery to me. If you have a plume from the 19th century never wash or wet it cause it will never get's it's volume back. Linen or cotton thread would have been used.
