Today we're starting the spring bulb planting!! It's that time again to plant (in the Fall) to get a wonderful show in a few months time. I picked out some bulbs that will naturalise well to create a bulb meadow in our woodland corner - we're should have colour from January all the way to May !!
Hope you enjoy planting with me xx

You're getting a workout with this project. I'm sure it's all worth it come spring when the lawn is gorgeous with blooms.

Thank you so much for sharing. I can't wait to see the beautiful carpet of colourful flowers in the spring. Spring flowers are always something to look forward to, and along with them the early pollinators. Until next time 🌻

I'm looking forward to seeing your spring bulb meadow! I suggest buying an auger to dig the holes. It's been a game changer for me. I use a 7 inch auger but now there is a 36 inch auger available that you can use to drill holes standing up and it's a great back saver. It will save you a lot of time and less sore muscles.

Thank you 🥰 I know, everyone is sharing how useful that was, I need to seriously research it ! Did you have to invest in a corded drill ?

This year I bought my first auger to attach to drill to plant my bulbs -- soooooooo easy.

Can you plant bulbs in a large container? I have a 2 by 3 ft raised container on my balcony and would love to create a miniature woodland 😊
@bobbiostudio
@bobbiostudio 8 месяцев назад
Yes absolutely 🥰! I love planting in large containers because you can create layers and have interest for months : start with snowdrops or crocuses for Jan & Feb, then muscari and daffodils for Mar & Apr (or any other woodland bulb) 💛 here’s a video at 6m14 where I explain how to do layers- just make sure to keep compost in between, roughly respect overall planting depth and place your tallest / latest flowering bulb toward the bottom : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FVw5Zw75Y34.html Hope that helps xx

Never, but it doesn’t sound like it would have been very handy !! I’ll keep a look out ☺️

I have the same soil problem ^^' Also I have the linden tree roots that cover a big part of the garden, maybe you have that issue too with the oak tree ? I have been thinking about that hole digging tool to mount on a drill but not bought any yet.
@bobbiostudio
@bobbiostudio 8 месяцев назад
Haha so you know all about that ordeal 😅 yes oak tree roots + all the edging are not helping with dry soil issues !! I think for clay soil we might need a corded drill so it’s a bigger investment 😕

Thanks for the video. I followed your wildflower meadow last summer and it was very successful. I have taken up the task of planting bulbs in the lawn at a friend's place. I am planning to plant only small bulbs (400+) like crocus, muskari, bluebells, etc. Can you recommend a strategy to dig for these bulbs, should I get a mini auger?
@bobbiostudio
@bobbiostudio 8 месяцев назад
Oh I’m so glad you were successful, meadows are amazing 🥰 !! As you’ve seen, it can be difficult to plant in the ground.. I’ve never used a auger personably but apparently you can get great results with it ! Otherwise you could always rotate / dig up the whole area and then resow grass on top (if you they had grass there) - there are many ways to go about it ! If you want big clumps of bulbs, you need to dig larger holes - which might be easy if the ground is wet / has been worked before. Good luck 🪻🌷!!

I live in town and have a neighborhood herd of deer who love to come nibble in my yard. Are there spring bulbs that are safe to plant ?

Deer don’t like spring bulbs- thank goodness!

Thankfully, there are many : alliums, daffodils, alliums, hyacinths, muscari, snowdrops, bluebells, fritillaries should be fine !! Anything form the allium family or scented planted are normally ok. Beware apparently tulips can be eaten !!

I've read that deer don't like daffodils so you can plant other bulbs with daffodils.
