For removing abundant amounts of wood for the eyelet: Tap the eyelet where you are going to make the peg, just enough to mark the surface. Then you can chisel/saw down around to remove most of the wood in a rough cut. I highly recommend bushcrafters add a chisel to the wrench sheath. The combination of these two tools opens up an extreme amount of options. Also, waxing, or oiling, the eyelet prior to shaving the peg will allow for easier removal of the tool. This is especially useful if working with wet wood.

Thank you. I thought to show how it works and how to use this tool. Might be useful to someone.

I'm hoping to make a 2" version with a 17" auger and tube for extra sturdy connections and wooden rocket stoves. I've also smaller regular Settlers Wrenchs for making pins to pin the larger connections so they can't back out. You just might be impressed sweetie.

The 2 inch version will be nice and big. Good luck to you! You need to put in a lot of effort. I am developing it now. Will be 2" in diameter and 23.6" auger length. There will also be a sharp ring. I hope I get a review. Thank you

That scotch eyed auger="[{(settlers wrench)}]" in the beginning is an excellent build!!! A nice thick eye and healthy weld!!! Just wrap it in an oily rag in a freezer thick ziplock bag and maybe a wooden box for longevity????? An absolute genius build!!!! And Howdy Howdy from DeadHorse Alaska sugar bear 🥰🤠🥰🧸🦣🐻😊!!!!!

Yes, you can save it that way. Even when sending, I try not to carefully wipe after heat treatment
@kimnielsenthewordyvikingett159
Careful sweetheart the only thing bad about using a metal shaft to turn the auger is it quite possibly booger up your eyes cutting edge. That's why I've since opted for the longer tube.
@addforging
@addforging Год назад
Safety first! Better for spinning a wooden stick. The sharp edges of the ring won't hurt. Thank you.
@kimnielsenthewordyvikingett159
@@addforging sweetheart I didn't mean the sharp edges would hurt the person using it I meant a metal shaft to stick in the eye would damage your nice sharp cutting edge of the tenon cutter or scotch eye 👁‍🗨!!! I just thought you were using a piece of metal to turn it in your video because it sounded like it. But again I actually really like your Settlers Wrenchs because the eyes are nice and thick and the tappers are nice and long!!! Good work sweetheart!!!
@kimnielsenthewordyvikingett159
Oh gosh sweetheart don't use a piece of metal to drive it you might flare the tenon cutter at the leading cutting edge!!!! Then it'll be difficult to remove it out in the middle of nowhere ⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️ You're an extremely gifted fabricator keep up the good work and don't you dare stop making these informative videos sugar bear!!! 🧸🦣🐻🥰🤠🥰😊 And Howdy Howdy from DeadHorse Alaska sweetie ⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️

I can’t seem to get the knack of using this tool. I wonder if a smaller diameter version would be easier to use in the woods (at a trade-off of weaker connections)
@addforging
@addforging Год назад
This tool is easy to use. Watch another video, I will give a large drill diameter. Small diameter works well. A freshly sawn tree is well suited for this tool.

If the wood is too hard and dry it will get stuck. I found green wood works well and if it gets stuck let it dry for a few days and it will slip off

Try doing that out in the woods without a vise. Tried yesterday. VERY DIFFICULT.

Thanks for the commentary. Yes, it’s true that it’s easy in tesk, but in reality it’s difficult. Soon there will be new videos, outdoors.

Its easy without a vice. You leave the wood on the tree until your holes are drilled, then saw the piece off
