My process of creating an wildlife portrait of a hummingbird.
This painting began as a leap of faith, a moment where I gave myself permission to pour paint and see where it took me. No plan, no destination. Just curiosity and a willingness to embrace whatever emerged - colors, shapes, and emotions.
But here's the magic part: as I was out there in the sunshine, a hummingbird appeared, dancing around me, as if it wanted to be a part of this creative process. It hovered over my canvas, inspected my work, and even took a seat nearby, as if it wanted to lend its energy to this piece.
In that moment, it hit me. The hummingbird, with its vibrant energy and ability to pause and savor life's little moments, became my muse. I saw its colors and shapes in the abstract paint on the canvas, and that's when I knew where this artwork was headed.
One of the tiniest creatures on this planet inspired one of my largest artworks. I find the hummingbird so relatable, always in motion but with the wisdom to slow down and appreciate the beauty around it.
Also a sneak peek at the end of a few other colourful wildlife artworks I recently made.
