I've recently signed up for a Warhammer escalation league, that starts up in the new year. So this week I'm painting up an eel, and developing a paint scheme for the new Idoneth Deepkin army.
Wasn't sure how I'd like the purple on the eel, but it seems really appropriate to have a cold, soulless rider in their icy blues and greys with a warmer, richer flesh on their mounts. A great turnaround!
Nice colour scheme buddy, love the grey/blue skin tones of the character and the purple tones of the eel work really well. So many painters jump straight to 'ice yellow' to highlight but if you use a 'yellow', like yourself, the lumonosity that using a true yellow brings just adds so much more interest initially. Don't know if you've tried any transparent paints, Pro Acryl have an awesome set, but the flexibility these paints give you for creating more depth and visual seperaation is well worth the investment, I think you'd have a whole lot of fun experimenting with them. Great work as always, love the channel!Oh! and to answer your question regarding the 'the first thing I paint' I always tend to go with the largest area to help set the tone of the piece.

Thank you! It's Vallejo Model Color purple mixed with deep yellow for the eel, and mixed with pink elsewhere. I've since moved to Pro Acryl, and the purples are even better!!
Love the model but I'd be careful of using similar colours for different things (purple eel & hair on the saddle, grey skin & NMM blade) though obviously it's your army and you can do whatever you like ;)
