wouldnt it be easier to just mod your xbox and have all your games stored on the hard drive ?

The only thing i would add is a basic 2x16 alphanumeric LCD screen for the remote so you can know what game is being loaded without having to turn them all on one by one.

I really like Ben Heck, man. It's basically like watching local TV home improvement shows, but filled with cool, nerdy stuff.

PC has something like that, it's called steam and you don't need crappy discs.

Even now I like the idea of using something like the idea of using one of these loaders for my Blu-ray collection so I can keep the cases on display but don't need to take the discs out. Connect each bay in the rack to a switch and press in the case of the disc you want. More likely it would just mount a virtual disk these days.

So I guess Reach is out of your reach...

You know? i dont know nothing about ingeneering but always loved to open my old consoles, and i'm hooked to this show, keep the awesome work man!

He should put in a sensor that reads where the carousel is in the cycle, and hook it up to a digit screen that tells the number. Then have a list of which number corresponds to every certain game. Eventually; connect the sensor to a tablet that shows the DVD-covers of each game. Select the game you want, and a simple device put into the dvd-changer tells the carousel motor where to go :) If you can tell which DVD is selected, you can put the top of the changer back on, and it would look cool :)

Too lazy to get off the couch to switch a game disk? spend many hours and funds building an extremely fucking complicated and impractical machine to switch your disks for you! xD

that would be good, and have a few 7 segment displays that show which number disk you are in the cycle using sensors. that way you can have a list showing the game name against the number and it would be much easier. If only Ben Heck would read these

You should put an LCD screen on the controller to keep track of what game is selected (you'd have to reprogram the arduino every time you add a game though :S)

One of the most amazing things to me

Fit a camera to the inside of the changer with an lcd screen in the controller. That way you can see the games, no games list required!

This would be easy with a Wii. Inspecting the load cycle of a Wii and those CD Players, you would just have to cut out a part and replace it with the Entire Wii. (vertical disc loading on both)

Hiya Ben, i like what you did to a 90' CD changer and convert it to your XBOX 360, but what i DONT Like is the wires and the buttons that will control the carousel mechanism.. why not add an IR remote for the carousel and some LED Digit Display so you know what the disc's location is.. and the remote is embeded to your Xbox controller with some simple addtional switch.. or some combination button.. Back+Trigger.. or different button then trigger.

Most of those old auto disc changers could actually be programmed with the cd name, As long as he left those electronics alone you could just input the name of each game.

a good idea for this, is to add the xbox to the side and put it into one big custom case that looks like a massive xbox!

Modded drive firmware overriding the disc-in check, but this is way more novelty and cool :P

I would have built the whole xbox into that unit, that would have been cool. Hook up a 20x2 LCD as well for an indicator as to what disc you are on and the whole nine yards :)

@MrMobss when you are surfing through games it loads it in the xbox, it should say what game it is on the tv

You could have a list written out so you would know which disc you are switching to.

you know, part of me wonders if you could throw together some cartridge switching system for an older nintendo. Though, that could just switch between multiple slots that are plugged in... wait, what happens if you switch games without there being a gap between the reads?

The time I've spent changing disks in my life isn't even half the time it takes to make this... but I sure as hell enjoyed it anyway :D

would have been nice if this project was a full integration to the component system though. Still that's one really nice mod.

I've been wanting to see one of these for a long time, and as awesome as it is, I would like to see a version that doesn't involve modifying the system, itself... maybe a machine that could safely place or pick up the disks from the tray when it's open?

This can work on any console like a ps4 or anything that uses a type of cd

grmpf its harder to change the drive on a 200 disc changer sony cpd-cx235, than ben's changer. my plan is to build a 200 dvd( at first) streaming libary with a raspi or an pcduino.

you know what I liked to see an r2d2 just the shell then some now put the guts of a super Nintendo or n64 or w.e system inside that would be one sick system mod

Disc changer is cool but I might want to spend on a x360key and rebuild the controller with a wireless control, maybe using a android phone over bluetooth connection, seems doable much enough than finding a old disc changer device.
