This video demonstrates the cutting and polishing of a gemstone also known as lapidary. im cutting a 257 carat quartz gem in a portuguese design. This is my second full cut portuguese stone in the last 12 months.
This stone took 41 hrs. to cut but i did it over a 2 month period.
i looked for a large piece of rough that was free of inclusions ( flaws, cracks) but had to settle for a piece with slight inclusions.
I used a 30 yr. old. facetron brand machine for the cutting. This stone measures 39 mm in width. This quartz material is from brazil.
