Your tutorial was short and easy to follow. I got the results I wanted! I had looked at 3 other tutorials before this and left them. You are a great teacher. Thank you!
Thank you! I am designing my daughters grad announcements and she wanted gold foil, but I didn't want to pay for the extra printing costs. You just saved me a bundle!
I have a quick question... Your tutorial on Gold Foil was wonderful - very easily explained and simple...If I want this as a PNG, do I simply turn off the background layer or create it from new with a transparent background? Thanks
Either would work but if you have the work already done, yes! Just turn off the background layer and save as a PNG! Boom! Transparent background done! :)
@@adamhommerding Thanks for the rapid response - much appreciated - This tutorial was just what I needed at this point Im learning RU-vid and presenters like you are just totally indispensable - Thanks again...
Adam, great tutorial. Thanks for posting this. I'm trying to use this effect on a brochure cover to make the logo and text look like they are foil stamped. It seems like in order to pull this off you need a foil background with a directed light source, similar to the background you used. Foil backgrounds that are flat just don't seem to have the same effect. Have you had the same experience?
Hi Kelly! Thanks for taking time to watch our tutorial. Yes! We completely agree. Using a foil image that has good light direction is going to give your piece more depth and make it look more realistic. This video tutorial was posted on our blog. We include a link to download the gold foil image in the post. You can find it here: www.themoderncollective.com/blogs/blog/8259697-create-gold-foil-text-in-photoshop-tip-tuesday
Every time i hold down the ALT key and try to hover in between the layers it just creates a copy of the gold foil layer. Please help! i dont know what im doing wrong!
This happens if you click on the layer and not between the two layers. Try this instead - select the gold layer in the layers palette and go up to Layer > Create Clipping Mask. Should do the same thing!
Hi Jen, sorry for the slow response. The gold foil applied to the strokes is a method of creating the stroke and flattening the layer. Then you apply the gold foil effect to it as described in the video. It's a bit more involved...
Hello! The gold foil text technique in this tutorial is meant to only "look" like gold foil. It's not meant to be printed with actual gold foil. You can submit it to your printer of choice just as you normally would. It will not actually be metallic, but instead just look like it is. Hope that helps!
Hey Samantha! you can do that two different ways. 1 - apply the gold to each individual text layer. OR 2 - place all text layers into a group and apply the gold to the group instead of the individual layers by placing the gold texture above the group and following the same clipping mask steps.
+Jennifer Mercurio when you have the move tool selected do a Command + T to activate your transform tools. Ours is automatically doing it because we have 'show transform controls' toggled to on in the top menu bar options for the move tool. This isn't a photoshop default but you can activate it in the top menu bar as well or just do the Command or Control + T to activate it. Hope that helps.
This helped me so so much! Thank you so much :) If you want to see how I used it, check this out: kianatbates.wix.com/kianabatesphoto I wouldn't have been able to do it without this easy tutorial!
haha Thanks for the comment, Ben! It made me laugh. I'm glad you found the tutorial useful! This video was made 10 years ago... a time when content consumption wasn't like it was today. I agree. I'll try to place a marker on the timeline so people can quickly jump to the start of the tutorial! Enjoy your day!
