Thanks for the tutorial. What about white slipping the cup first, and then working with smaller decals? So many variables needing to come together at once??

Yeah for sure! It’s all about finding out how long the dry times are for you and that will vary depending on where you live and humidity levels.

Thanks for watching! Let me know if you think this video is too long and prefer it to be broken up into "parts" I know I prefer to just let it run rather than going back and searching for which video should come next. A really smart RU-vidr probably does it in parts so they can have more content posted but I am lazy and as a viewer, would prefer it this way.

I like one full video myself. Can you use underglazes in bottles with tips, or must it be colored slips? I'm about to do a mosaic stepping stone and want to glaze using stroke and coat...would like it to be easier instead of painting my glazes on my tiles. Love the designs you chose.

Absolutely yes with underglaze! Stroke and coat is not the same tho so I don’t know how that would transfer. You could certainly try and put them in squeeze bottles and do it directly on your piece but I would suggest bigger tips for something like that bc that glaze is SO thick. Hope that helps!

Of course! If you have instagram I’d love to see how your project turns out! Send me a picture when it’s done or tag me (I’m horrible with technology)

You can’t roll the cup straight because the rim and base are different, if even slightly, diameters. If you look at a pattern for a hand built flared mug you will see an arc shape. The less parallel the sides the greater the arc. You can actually predict it which may help your transfer patterns. This should help keeping the paper flatter and predict where your pretty designs.

Awesome great tip!! I usually just try to make the paper bigger so I have enough room if it goes a little crooked. But then I have to deal with wet edges and it gets messy. So great thought I’ll see if I can predict the arc pattern it will make!

Can you share how you make your slips?

I bought Catie Millers slip class. She shares a recipe for cone 5-6 slip by another artist. I’ll see if I can find it-we just moved around all of our basement for a broken water pipe 😂

Thanks for the great video. I do like that it is just 'one' total video. I was wondering what type of bottles you use for your slip. They look like they hold a lot of slip. What size tips do you find works best for your slip? Thanks again for sharing your talent.

Thank you! I’m glad I’m not the only one that appreciates not having to search around for “part 2” 🤣 I’m sure they get more views doing that but oh well. I use 4oz squeeze bottles I found on Amazon and they come with an 18 gauge tip most of the time. I put a sewing pin in there to keep it from clogging instead of the rubber top things they come with. I’ll see if I can find the exact ones on my Amazon and add a link below.

Great video!... what did use to get the initial outline on the newsprint? It is so sharp and vibrant. ...clay pencil? printer? Thanks!

Hi! Thank you! I made a stencil. First I draw what I want in an app called procreate and then I transfer it to my cricut app, cut it and iron it onto silk screen fabric. Then I use underglaze thickened with some gel stuff from Duncan and then put it through my stencil. I was thinking I needed another video for that as well 😆 it’s a long process

Hi! Very pretty design! Is your starting slip deflocculated or is it just clay+water? Sounds pretty thin when i hear you shaking it up just wondering about it's consistency
@MugwortsArtcraft
@MugwortsArtcraft 21 день назад
Hi! Thank you! It is not just water and clay- it has 5 different powdered ingredients and water. It’s very thin!! But it make a great layer once it’s dry enough.

Hi! I make them. I took a class by Catie Miller. She does low fire clays and slip but she includes a recipe from someone else that can go up to cone 6. I will see if I can find his name or find the recipe!
