Everyone knows that Revit software is a Building Information Modeling (BIM) program, and that it has intelligence when modeling. However, this intelligence is sometimes lost when creating details. In this session, we'll show how to create intelligent details using detail components and nested detail components. In doing this, we'll be able to keynote these elements to maintain a consistent noting procedure, and be able to send this information out to our spec writer so even the detailed items aren't missed in the specs. If keynoting isn't your choice, we'll also cover how to tag these elements so that there's consistent notation of the details on every project.

I worked at a place that had this system. There are some problems. Every unique note either requires a new type or an instance tag. My people all started using instance tags a lot. Sometimes they would just duplicate types. Also, the detail tags are hardcoded to align right or left, and also have a hard coded width of tag. so we had like 9 different tags to choose from in order to tag a detail component. They are also very laggy to align and situate on the sheet. Notes cannot be copied from detail to detail, so everything has to be tagged fresh and dragged around. Then when you go and transfer that detail into your project, all of those components duplicate as details do. So then when my people got to start annotating a new detail with tags, they see 25 options for tagging. Left aligned1. Leftalignedshort1. Rightaligned1. Rightaligned2. Rightaligned3. It was taking 4 times longer to draw details because of issues like this. It was a nightmare. I do like the idea of drawing a detail with 95% detail components. That makes for some great graphical consistency. I also like the idea of filters for visibilty built into the template. But for standardizing language, just get poeple to copy and paste. Then use find and replace.

I may have missed this, but do you just hide or filter out your detail guides before printing? It seems like it would take a good amount of effort to update every view port prior to printing.

Same, I've looked through this and their blog post and never could figure this out...

looks like there are some macros you can run. I first changes object stile to white, but doesn't allow you to send to back. Only way I see is to turn off visibility of lines in the Generic Annotation family before print

Download Brian's class handout and explore more free resources from AU online. His terrific handout includes a good write-up, as well as ways to connect with him. au.autodesk.com/au-online/classes-on-demand/class-catalog/classes/year-2017/class-detail/as122882#chapter=0

He said that once a family is shared you cannot map its parameters into another family but then he does exactly that at @47:00 by associating the parameters of the weep to that of the parent family. Thoughts anyone?

In every case Autocad with dynamic blocks is faster isn't it? It's just that revit's 3D helps with analysing. Imagine is Revit could just directly use Autocad commands and functionality. It's the same company they could work towards this. Sadly they are like Electronic arts of a company it seems all talk and cash obsessed. Still having a monopoly they perhaps don't deserve.

I hate keynoting because it makes drawings harder to read
