Thank you very much Jeff! I have a question about alignment superelevation label. I used and edited the standard S.E label ( located in help folder in program files) to get what I want, but I didn't quite get how it works. A lot of components visibility is false, I think they are used as baselines to get the final label to look correct. Is there a video to clarify this? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for making the videos Jeff. I’ve watched hours worth of them. Any idea what it would take to have components of labels have different layers? Doesn’t seem like it’s possible but would be nice

Hi Jeff! Can you help me? I want to have full control of COGO and Survey points display, which one would be a best practice to create a point label style? I was thinking about this method: to create a master P (point number), Z (elevation) and D (description), just using a single text component in Layout tab and then to create child label styles from this PZD master/mother, with P only, Z only and D only variations. So, if I just change the text size in the mother label style, every child style would be updated to the same text size updated aswell, keeping consistency among all point texts in the Surveying drawing. How would you procced in this situation? Is there any practices on this? Is there any problem or restrictions using PZD texts with a single text component instead using 3 different text components (C3D dafult Standard Point Label style)? Is there any disadvantages of using three different text informations inside 1 component instead using 3 different components, one for each information? Do you have any other better solution or workflow to get this same task done? Thank you very much!

Dear Bartels, thank you so much for always sharing great knowledge in videos that are improving our professional skills. here i would like to request you to please explain how we can add in our style the dynamic block. for example, we added a diamond block to our label style, here we have thousands of points, by increasing the numbers value test going out of a diamond block. Is this possible size of the block can also increase/decrease with the digits of serial?

Is there a way to create a point label style for existing structures with inverts? I am trying to have a label made for survey crews who only collect rim elevations, depths, pipe direction, pipe size and material between the rim and the pipe invert. Not only that, but I am curious if it can be dynamic in the sense that if one manhole has 3 inverts and another has 1, the same label can be used instead of creating variants of the label and confuse the survey crew. Again this is for existing structures. If there is no way, I will understand. If there is another video made on this topic, please guide me.

do you have a guide for how to create inverts labels?

Hi Jeff, again thanks for another great tutorial. I have a question that may be somewhat technical but has deep implications. On the General tab, you select a text style from whatever text styles you have defined in your drawing. That's easy and handy so you can make global changes later. When you create a new label style from scratch like you're doing in these videos, what appears in the Text -> Contents field on the Layout tab is the label component coding without any hard-coded formatting qualifications. That seems to be C3D's default behavior. At 9:58, however, after you modify the default text contents, the formatting is now hard-coded as the Arial font in the label contents, even though you didn't change anything on the formatting tab. To make matters more confusing, this behaviour isn't consistent across different workstations. Working with the same template file and version of C3D, my office workstation does not hard code the font automatically when I make changes to the contents, while my home workstation does (similar to what you see at 9:58 in this video). The frustrating part is... once that font is hardcoded into the text contents, global changes to text styles are no longer possible. Each and every text component in each and every C3D style you create will have to be updated manually if, say you want to change your global font from Arial to Cambria for example. Is there any way to stop C3D from hardcoding the formatting? Better yet, is there any way to remove the hard-coded formatting from all C3D styles in a drawing template?

Hi Alexander, I noticed the hard-coded formatting when I was creating the video. This was the first time I had seen that particular issue happen. (You mentioned the issue doesn't seem to be consistent across workstations.) I'd recommend logging a support request though Autodesk and have them take a look at it. They should be able to help you identify why things work differently on different machines. They may also know of a way to control the issue, or remove the formatting after it has occurred.

@@JeffBartelsCAD I just wanted to share an update for you and the community - I went through the steps of troubleshooting this issue with Autodesk support (my support agent and the development team were very helpful) and we managed to narrow down the cause of the issue to the ACAD text style I was utilizing in the C3D styles. Apparently at some point, the text style became mildly corrupted in my template, which of course propagated to many of my designs. The corruption seemed to be contained to it's application to the C3D styles, meaning the text style functioned correctly everywhere else, so it wasn't immediately apparent there was an issue. Upon deleting the text style in question, and recreating it, the hard coded formatting ceased when editing and creating new text objects in the C3D styles. Unfortunately they didn't have an automatic way to go through and remove it once it had occurred, so some manual effort was required to recreate all the text objects in my styles, but now I know to check and watch for that in the future, and how to address it immediately. I hope this helps someone out there in the C3D universe! Another related pro tip - I've recently taken to using the "Standard" style in all my C3D template styles and blocks, making switching between multiple corporate styles much easier. If using one single template, switching from company A to company B requires redefining only the "Standard" style.

Is there a way to label subassemblies with several conditions and targets. It would be easier to map targets that way

15:09 That won't work with pipe inlets to a manhole. If you move all the inlets and outlets to the top text group entry, you'll end up with a random connection value (Only the output connection, from what I can tell, will display.) The only way to get a border around all the text is to use the dragged state. The dragged state ignores all the text anchor points... and can only be controlled by the order of creation (which is lazy programming). Now here is my problem.... Lets say I have a manhole that has a main line (an in and an out), and 2 curb inlets (two ins; which will always be the smaller connections). And I want a label to only show the curb inlets (connection size, connection direction, and invert flowlines) and another label to show the Main line (connection size, connection direction and invert flowline)? Personally, I can't figure out a way to do it... (because the labels don't give that kind of control of what is shown for pipe connections.) The label automatically groups all pipe connections to ins and outs. And what I need it to do is separate all connections to individual values.
