The other thing you can consider is sharing maternity clothes with a friend! I have done this so much, there is a box of maternity clothes that has traveled amongst 4 of us during our various pregnancies. Really helps cut down on investment and it's fun to see your preggo friends in your clothes! 😁

Such a cool idea. I remember when my Mum's friends passed down trousers as their teenage boys had sudden growth spurts

One thing I'd caution you on is, when it comes to your clothes with stretchy materials, be careful not to over-stretch and thus ruin them! The sunflower dress, for example, looks like the kind of thing that might eventually over-stretch to the point of damaging the elasticity which could make the pattern look faded, or even make it look misshapen on your non-preggo figure. Be vigilant about that, and if there's an item of clothing you love, you might be better off saving it for after rather than squeezing into it one more time in the third trimester!

TIPS from a mom who now has a 6month old baby 😊 (remember that these are all from personal experience, so some might be useful or not at all😅❤️) 1. If you buy a jacket, make sure you can use it next year, so that the baby fits inside it in a baby carrier❤️ 2. Buy maternity tights, also useful after giving birth. 3. Recommend buying a loose comfortable big skirt, in which you can live the last weeks when nothing else fits. 4. You might need some big shoes or flipflops if your feet swell up. 5. After giving birth your body won't be the same even 6 months later or ever, so patience❤️ 6. Feet will probably change to a bigger size for good, so wear all your favourite shoes now and be prepared to part with some of them if not all😬❤️

Another thing to consider: A lot of pregnancy tops and dresses are also good für breastfeeding. After giving birth I noticed that I had very little options with boob accessibility and bought two more tops which I could have worn during pregnancy.

I am currently pregnant for the second time and I actually regret not investing in actual maternity wear, sooner. The first time around I just bought a few pants and leggings and just wore my regular stretchy tops and jumpers. However, this time around I have gotten some actual maternity tops, jumpers and dresses second hand and they feel SO MUCH BETTER and I just feel super cute in them 😊. They are just designed to perfectly fit a pregnant body and make me feel real good!

Agree with almost all other commenters. I did this with a lot of my clothes while pregnant but saved all my favourites away so I wouldn’t overstretch them - you won’t notice yourself growing each day but they will! Depop was great for maternity clothes. Invest in loungewear, dresses and leggings. I ruined a lot of t shirts but was ok with it on the basis I’dused them a lot and would rather spend money after baby for new tops I would wear for longer. Ps maternity jeans will top being comfy near the end - I had no idea how big I would get!

Agree with everyone else, getting proper maternity wear (and nursing later on) makes such a difference. I felt so much more cute and comfortable in maternity specific items while I was pregnant. It’s easier if you have a friend or 2 that you can all share pieces. My hips permanently widened so almost none of my pants (other than leggings) fit even after pregnancy. So that was fun 😩

Dresses that are combined nursing and maternity wear have been staples for me, so comfortable, great for feeding and that awkward stage after you have bump when you don't feel yourself again!!

Second time pregnant here: highly recommend maternity clothes! So much more comfy then oversized normal and believe me, you will need HUGE clothes at the end anyway. It's really worth the investment, if course even better is second hand. And think about breastfeeding friendly, in case you'll want that!

If you're struggling for maternity coats you can get extenders for one you already have. They have zips on either side and zip in to your existing. They can also be useful if you're planning on baby wearing!

I didn't buy very many maternity clothes when I was pregnant and I regret it a little. Not only are they much more comfortable but they add to the experience of being pregnant. When I wore oversized normal clothes it just made me feel fat with weird dietary restrictions. The maternity clothes highlighted the bump and reminded me that I was growing a whole human.

I bought maternity wear that I could keep wearing after the pregnancy. Big, flowy dresses and shirts especially. It felt less wasteful that way and allowed me to buy a few nicer things that would have felt too expensive for something I would only wear for a year or so at maximum, since I knew I could keep wearing them.

I knew I wanted more than one kid so I went all in on the maternity clothes and started wearing it at like 13 weeks and I regret nothing. It is so much more comfortable than normal clothes and then i didn’t stretch out all my clothes. Maternity clothes are also cut for pregnancy and I felt like they are more faltering and I felt better in them.

I know nothing about maternity clothes, but this was still a well-spent 20 minutes. I just wanted to say how much I love seeing how happy you are/seem since being pregnant. I love that you've spoken about your struggles and the downsides too, but your excitement and happiness when talking about anything baby-related is just contagious, and after following your pregnancy journey online, it really does make me smile x

Something I’ve discovered in the last couple years to make my summery pants wintertime pants is to wear leggings underneath. Super simple but never thought of it before! Makes it cozy and warm and I’m able to wear my fun flowy pants year round. Fleece lined leggings are great for extra chilly days. You made me think of this tip when you were trying on your yellow pants :)

I was due early April, I had lots of tops that worked throughout. It was lockdown so two good pairs of (Nike for me) maternity tights were life. Wore them casually or with long tops / sweater dresses and cute shoes throughout. I was able to skip the maternity coat (in Canada, in winter) I had a loose rain / spring jacket that managed zip almost the whole pregnancy. And by February I was so hot all the time I didn’t need anything warmer. Also, I kept my summer weight clothes handy because cool was comfort as I grew. If you invest in any maternity tops I suggest finding things that will be breastfeeding friendly if that’s something you think you’ll be doing. Easy access is key.

For sheer dresses and skirts, sometimes instead of a dark skirt under, I just wore opaque leggings. It’s maybe a bit more “scandalous “, but if like how it looks, who cares!

Love this. So I'm still living in maternity jeans and my daughter is 15 months. I breastfed so lost all my pregnancy weight immediately near enough but I had to stop at 8 days for various reasons and wow, no one warns you not to go cold turkey. I suddenly had no idea what to do with my body so I'm so grateful I bought myself a fair maternity wardrobe. I finally feel ready to get back to fitness so I'm quite looking forward to crack out the other 90% of my wardrobe after 2 years haha

The sunflower dress (15:33) and the next dress (15:40) can be used with the maternity jeans as a tunic type top when you get bigger. I had two children and I got two pair of stretch knit pants and two short sleeve tops everything else was pregnancy clothes.

With my first I basically bought two pairs of jeans, maternity tights, a bodycon dress and a stretchy pencil skirt (still use both the dress and the skirt). Most tops still fit me because I like stretchy tops/knits and when they got too short I wore a long black vest top underneath. Some less fun items I had to buy were maternity bras (don't know why but I hated them) and support stockings for my bloated legs. My kid is born in late April so I had the same timeline as you and I borrowed a regular winter jacket from my mom (she's bigger than me). I am pregnant again and basically have the same plan as last time.

Today is my due date, so I'm the biggest in winter. I bought one pair of maternity jeans and some tights. Everything else I bought was dresses, both for winter and summer that were either stretchy or flowy. I was very nauseous most of my pregnancy so I felt like I couldnt wear anything with a waistband. I wish I didn't need to buy so much stuff, but I do think I will get a lot of wear out of it after pregnancy as well. And my comfort was very important to me.

My first pregnancy was in a really hot place, so I had a pair of maternity shorts (and still a pair of maternity trousers for random colder weatehr trips), but the rest of my clothes fit me pretty amazingly because I really like oversized styles. Some did not fit the end so I left those out. I think I had 1 maternity top that I did wear and a couple of other items I bought in the first trimester all exited but I did npt end up wearing them because they were heavy draping polyester and they were well too hot. My second pregnacy was in the uk, bit I got away with the timing of it so that my third trimester was falling mostly onto spring, so I managed without buying a winter coat

I had my baby in July. I got through the first and most of the second trimester with one pair of maternity leggings, one pair of maternity jeans, and one pair of maternity bike shorts. For my third trimester I bought four dresses, two maternity shirts, and a pair of maternity shorts. Being due in the summer was definitely convenient because I didn't have to worry about shoes or jackets/cardigans. By the time my feet swelled I was wearing sandals. I made it through winter while I was still close to my normal size.

Honestly, I'd just bite the bullet and buy maternity wear especially if you're planning to have more than one child, i'd say they're worth the investment. You can buy them second hand if you want; i got a few bits off my sister who was pregnant a few years ago. I'm 26 weeks and i feel like my bump has exploded overnight. all of a sudden not even my husbands hoodies that i was wearing fit. i feel like a planet and its nice that they're tailored in a way that doesn't either leave my belly hanging out or make me feel like I'm wearing a tent. Get a timeless capsule wardrobe that layers, then no matter what time of year it is next time you can wear them and they wont be 'out of fashion'. I've gone for mostly black/grey/stripe and after baby is here they'll be packed up in a box for next time; that's if they're not suitable for breastfeeding in which most of the stuff I bought is also.

I ended up having to get five maternity long sleeved tops because I couldn’t find any used, and few of my long sleeved tops were long enough (long sleeves are my go to in the winter. I often find sweaters a bit too warm at home, and short sleeves too cold). I looked through non maternity too, but they end up just gaping ridiculously bagged out at the bottom, which I don’t like (I am currently 8 months pregnant). I also got a maternity winter coat, which unfortunately flaps out quite a bit at the bottom, but at least it was empire waisted. Very necessary in The midwestern US.

As to adding fabric to the trousers/jeans. Maybe there is a fellow sewing youtuber/friend/fan who could take a look at them for you and see what Christmas magic they could whip up! You would be surprised as to what type of fixing you can do with clothes. I have UC like you. When I was in HS I was SO THIN because of it and I had to have my mom take in all my clothes because size wise, I was adult, but I was too thin to have it fit right.

Secondhand maternity clothes...genius! You can often size up in non maternity joggers or leggings, until your third trimester. Save the upsized items for postpartum. The same goes for empire waist or a-line tops. Non maternity cardigans or any layers that are worn open can usually transition well. Invest in a few maternity items that mix/match/layer, that also make you feel fabulous and beautiful.

I'm due my 2nd at the beginning of April :) i had my son last November, so i never put his maternity clothes away. I was pregnant with him in Portugal, so most of my maternity was loose dresses for the summer. It was warm until October. Then we didn't really go out with lockdown. But this time round I've needed a maternity winter coat (new look parka 50% reduced!) I bought some lovely dresses 2nd hand from ebay. I wore a beautiful Seraphine dress at Xmas, totally out of my price range new, but i got it for £8 :) i wanted some more tops to go with my maternity jeans. I went to hnm early summer in Portugal and all of the previous years winter mama collection was on clearance so so cheap. So when you're newly pregnant that's worth bearing in mind. Love your videos ❤

You could get a stretchy long vest top (like a simple bodycon dress) to go underneath your see through dress if it still feels nice.

One of my roommates now wears a pair of dungarees that his mom wore when she was pregnant with him in the 90s! They look great on him! I recommend checking out Toronto RU-vidr withwendy for some pregnancy/nursing clothes inspo and sewing/DIY tips! She's a sewing wizard and recently had a baby. I would wear your fav short dresses as a shirt with your jeans! :)

You could wear a white knit turtleneck or similar under the blue checked dress! That would be so cute

Maybe for the more summery trousers, you could wear tights under them just for a bit more warmth. I do that sometimes (can’t get away with it when it is really cold) when I still want to wear fun flowy trousers that make me happy during the darker gloomy days😊

I bought a few maternity items but found that I needed to buy larger clothes after pregnancy and packed away my size 12-14s because even now 18 months post birth they don't fit me. I have lost most of the weight but my hips and boobs are perminantly larger, so I would recommend preparing with baggier and slightly larger wardrobe for the next year or so just incase. Like they say though everyone is different. Be comfotrable and confident in what you wear is the main point isn't it. =) I also wanted to express how happy I am for you and Dad starting a family, it's awesome to see a ttc success story. I really understood the rollercoaster leading up to it. Stay safe and happy.

The short dresses can be worn as long tops with your maternity jeans.

The long gingham dress - you could wear a long sleeve T-shirt under that and it’d be winter appropriate , or a big cosy cardigan - and a solution for the too short dresses could be wearing them as a tunic type thing with some leggings?

I had to get maternity clothes, my normal clothes just didn't fit right for the most part after 15ish weeks. and my body grew very differently with my 2 pregnancies. the pants I wore when I went into labor with my son didn't fit over my hips at 6 months with my daughter! it was crazy! I did luck out and have October and August babies, so the seasons were generally the same. it's nice to invest in some cute and comfy maternity stuff. I definitely wore a lot of it for awhile post-partum as well.

I had a lot of dresses that were stretchy and worked I bought one pair of jeans, one pair of shorts, and two maternity specific dresses and tops so 6 total maternity items. I was heaviest in July and august.

I'm pregnant as well, so watching this was a lot of fun! I only got some maternity jeans (dungarees, actually:D) and leggings, otherwise I just went with some oversized clothes as I realized I prefer oversized clothes anyway. So i will be wearing them after birth, too!

Hey just wanted to let you know that you can buy bump bands, (I think that is what they are called) they are basically a very big stretchy bit of fabric which is tighter at the bottom than the top and holds up jeans/ trousers that you own pre pregnancy to last much longer. They don't last all the way through tho. I found that the zips would be annoying once worn undone for a long time. I did however manage to make my work trousers last through to my maternity with them which was a huge help!

I was always biggest in the summer (2 august babies, brutal in the heat!!) and I got myself a couple of maternity bathing suits/bikinis. I also lived in maxi skirts and dresses! A cute crop top and a maxi skirt * chefs kiss * so cute, so comfy.

I just gave birth in October and never bought anything maternity aside from one pair of jeans I never wore! I already carry my weight in my belly, so my tops are already good for the shape of a pregnant person. As I got bigger, things got tighter, but I was working from home so it really didn't matter. I did buy several pairs of leggings and bike shorts in 2 sizes up, which I wore pretty much around the clock! They've been great postpartum, too. The one thing I had to buy a lot of was actually underwear lol. If I were working in my regular setting I definitely would've needed to buy maternity pants.

there is this thing that's basically a piece of fabric you can zip into your normal jackets to make them maternity jackets

For the winter coat, you might be able to find an extender and not have to buy an entire new coat. They have zippers on each side so you can just zip your coat unto them

Hi to all moms to be: pls do not think your body should not change much and you are supposed to fit into regular clothes. You will get bigger than you will estimate and it is fine

Also, tights.. I wear plus size so I only turned them back to front :D and had double stitch on the belly:D much more comfortable. I thing bigger size tights might be just cheaper than specific maternity ones .

Second hand maternity clothes are the best! I didn't really want to buy from like H&M or something like that, and some of the brands are super expensive, so I'm really glad I got some high-quality for a lot cheaper. I was pregnant during the winter of 2019, and where I live it was infamously warm (it's usually minus Celsius degrees). So I just borrowed my spouse's not-too-thick coat he got from work 😅

I'm 28 weeks and I bought like 5 thrifted tops, just basic t shirt and tank tops that I can wear under cardigans and unzipped sweatshirts and I got two pairs of thrifted maternity jeans and two pairs of leggings. Between those items and my prepregnancy items that are stretchy and my big sweaters, I'm doing pretty good and I think I can make it through to the end without buying more! Probably spent $100 overall so definitely not a whole new wardrobe.

To get the crop tops in there you need a long black maxi dress that you can layer that rainbow cropped sweater or whatever over the top

I am 37 weeks pregnant so I'm about as big as I'm gunna get. I have bought 4 pairs of maternity jeans, 2 pairs of maternity leggings, and a few maternity t shirts and tank tops. everything else ive just used what i already own. I have been the biggest in the fall and winter so my big oversized sweaters have been wonderful. I also have just resorted to wearing sweatpants if im just running to the grocery store of to see my immediate family. I only ended up buying a 3pack of nursing bras off amazon because my boobs didn't really grow too much so I can still wear my pre-pregnancy bras. I tend to wear the nursing bras because they are comfier but thats about it.
