In tonight's session I go to town on this Dennis Chambers' 'Fatback' break. #abletonlive #breakbeat #musicproduction
Lately, I've felt a need to revisit my break work. This has definitely come from listening to Paradox/Alaska's back catalogue, and the producer's ongoing collaboration with another favourite artist of mine, Seba.
There's something so alluring about Paradox's break work. It's tight, snappy, but at the same time funky AF, and well, just sounds like nothing else.
So, it's back to revisiting the process from the ground up. I feel I've put good time into learning how to work with breaks over the past 4 years, but I can improve. And what's more, I'm happy to share my journey with you. Thankfully this session went pretty well!
The first part was spent chopping and tidying our break up. Then I went onto creating my own new patterns before some heavy processing. I showcased Monomono's latest M4L devices. If you like them and want to own them yourself, using these affiliate links will give me a small kick back:

Timestamps up if you want to skip through. In this stream, I chop a break to a Drum Rack slicing preset. To create your own preset you can follow along with this video in which I do that: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5PsjhbkfGEc.html

Always a good time seeing a notification of an upload from you. It's impossible for me to catch your live streams, so these are a godsend. Cheers mate.

Aw thanks so much Jesse! It's a joy sharing the music with people. I get to make music and share what I've picked up along the way with such a positive community - that's a privilege. I'm glad you and others enjoy watching me do that. Thanks again.

In logic we have the new version of camel fat, it has crazy stuff in it, filter section has one called gritty. Turn up the res and drive after saturation in tal for a smashed sound that u get from the old days. Must be something similar in abelton.

Sick! Reckon roar could be the device for that. I have looked at the standalone camel fat before, looks mad. Also, I've got the TAL! Loving it, especially the resampling. Been looking at s3000xls too, cheaper than I thought they'd be but don't have the space atm. One day?!

Tal is bad to use as it has no undo button. So when u chop up a break u have to save the whole project every cut just in case u screw up. But it’s worth it for the sound that comes out of it.
