I feel like checking the stats and changing weapons takes too long to be a wheel, a wheel is supposed to be a quick change way, i think it should look more like fortnite’s gun builder thing

They definitely will be a station for buying parts or at the very least a buy window. Players won't spawn with all the parts don't worry haha.

I agree I think that would be a lot nicer. I don’t really like the idea of a gun wheel were you can change in game I think it would be cooler if you could a create a loudout before you enter the game with maybe a primary secondary and perhaps a melee. And maybe the melee could have a custom build mechanic like handle blade and hand guard customisation eg a knife is a lot faster but has less range and maybe a melee we’re damage scales with speed

You're basically saying "I don't want this game to have the unique mechanic that it's built around which would allow for ever-changing gameplay and would give players lots of flexibility to respond to situations on the fly. I want it to be like every other game where you make your load out beforehand and have the same 3 weapon setup that's been around for 20 years."

This is like the coolest mechanic ever, I love when something changes a tool like a gun (typically only used for damage) to a multi use tool (damage and movement) with the same input (pointing in a direction). Have you considered instead of adding a cool down making the knock back proportional to the damage of the weapon current weapon? That would make it so that something like a shot gun blasts could give you short strong bursts of speed, but smgs can have you move a much farther distance with consistent movement, and is super useful because in a gun fight you are moving while the enemy is trying to shoot you, and you are constantly moving because there’s no cool down, your just moving a lot less

Nice! A way to add weapon presets would be a good addition. It also might be a good idea to limit gunbuilding to, say, workbenches scattered around the map, but I really don't know

I would love it if the knock back barrel also kicked you back a little with each shot, in addition to the big boost on cool down. It would be a little touch that would make it feel more real.

I mean not really. There is no actual balancing difference between the ability to switch a gun mid fight and the ability to switch a gun when dead, a busted sniper rifle mid fight is no different than a busted sniper rifle on respawn. The only massive impact this is going to have is game flow, map design will need to be very well thought out. Players will have to approach each fight knowing any variation is possible at any given time which I think opens the door for quite an interesting gameplay loop

bro you’re like halfway to my dream gun game. the pvp aspect would be part of it sure. but like take this and spin it with borderlands/mmo vibes and crank the gun building up 3 more notches with elements and other modifiers. ik it’s a huge scope but ive always dreamed about a gun building looter shooter mmo so its so cool to see this project!

So with how movement centric this game is, I would love to see a grappling hook like the old titanfall days but it also might be too much. if possible tho, it would be really cool!

Very cool that you swap out the parts mid combat actually, didn't think of that. Makes for a super high tactical skill ceiling for choosing parts (as long as it's well balanced and every part serves a purpose), and also mechanically doing it quickly

the plain fog from the one map @ 4:58 reminds me of a map from Soldiers of fortune 2: double helix that had that very same concept but you can fight in like 2 to 3 stories of a building. had a lot of fond memories in those maps, especially this one in a snow map where its a single story office building that was easily exposed outside and a lot of rooms to take cover and hide on the inside.

Always excited to see updates on this project! I had some input to share, hopefully some of it's helpful. :) I'm sure you've already thought of this, but from the footage you've shown of rocket jumping, the momentum looks a little stiff, I think robust momentum is what will really make it fun. For the customization wheel, consider adding hotkeys. That's one of the things that helped make CS's gun buying work well. And finally (and I know this will be a while off), when you get to the sound portion, to make the customization options feel like you're ACTUALLY customizing a single gun with various parts, instead of a new single sound file for each part, I'd suggest looking into impulse responses. Impulse responses are basically a way of capturing the sonic qualities of a room or object. They're very common in music production for digitally recreating how real cabinets (specialized speakers for guitar amps) sound and respond, but they can be used for a lot more! For instance, an impulse response can be used to capture how a sound reverberates in a specific room, like a famous cathedral, which would allow you to apply that famous cathedral's reverb to anything you want. I also have a sneaking suspicion that this is how Forza Horizon 5 pulled off the exhaust system for customizing cars. The properties and dimension of an exhaust will greatly change how the engine sounds, even though the engine stays the same. Obviously for car guys, hearing how a new exhaust changes the sound of a car is really important. Impulse responses allow you to keep the heart of the sound the same, but let you color it differently when you switch to different parts. I'm no game dev AT ALL, so this would probably be a super difficult and a lot of work, but it would be SO cool if it was a feature. It would add a lot to making the customization feel real. :)

I think it would be cool to make it that you don’t have access to all the weapon parts but instead can choose like a maximum of say 7-14 that way you can make “builds” and specialize which part you want to have on hand, but still allow to switch it up during respawns or a tool bench or something. Adds more strategic depth while still being flexible, and maybe you could have an achievement for winning a match without ever changing from your starting build

Here are some ideas, (a favorites wheel) for quick changing parts. Also if throwable equipment is going to be added, maybe adding custom grenades.

You should add cosmetics to gun parts, not necessarily to make huge loads of money at first, but it really has the potential to be really money earning

You should add different ammunition and custom sounds depending on that ammunition and maybe utility like grenades and flash bangs and the rocket jump looks a little heavy but great job keep up the work. I can’t wait to go to this game.

I think that there should be a certain db shotgun that by default give a large jump boost that scales with speed and also increases your speed and maybe a ability that means it can shoot like a extra 2 “ghost rounds” before reloading so you could chain together were you jump off build up speed then blast them

You could use the battlefield 2042 gun attachment selection (it’s like a + where each line is a different attachment) so the large part of the gun is made out of the fighting (cos it will take a while which might dull gameplay ) and have a smaller selection during fights (like type of bullets used, sights used, suppresors+ muzzles)

oooh I have a few ideas, 1 is to be able to go into a sort of sandbox mode where you get to test your weapons against dummies/ rudimentary ai. 2nd is being able to favorite seperate guns and hotkey them. thats all! edit: just saw the training range part of the video, mb gang

Just some suggestions, penetrating bullets would be cool. For example if you find an enemy that walk behind some sort of wall you can shoot through and do damage, the damage could also be reduced by 50% or something.

Instead of the ability going off on use. It could influence your next shot meaning you can bounce others around with the effect. Or even add additional skill by allowing the user to manually detonate the effect you showed on route. some balancing may be needed but it allows other ability's. like a stasis effect that freezes your next shot in place when you shoot or after and when it is used again unfreezes the shot to continue thus making short term traps. Or a stock with a ability to lock up your gun and mimic your usage of the gun without you expending anything, to do things like fooling an enemy that your reloading to bait them after you only to get a face full of lead. even implement other effects on the components that could effect the base stats to make some better or not if you go that way to satisfy min maxers. such as shorter or longer ability times, some ability's with reduced functionality or effect. this is what I came up with quickly. I see your system to be quite unique with the ability to interest any type of player. (sorry for the wall)

Not sure if you already have this planned but I do think a class system (such as offense and support) would be interesting. It could help give a wider thought process in customization and strategy. If there was a gun combo that is discovered by players that is objectively OP, with no other classes, it nullifies all other combinations then it would be kind of brainless. Adding a class system would help balance that because if there was an OP combo that deals wayyy too much damage, then a class that offers, for example, higher defense or healing could balance that and incentivizes other strategies. You don't have to listen to what I just said at all btw, this is your game. I also never felt comfy giving out suggestions because I don't want to sound pushy or like those viewers that just want something in because it's cool so I hope my suggestions were at least ok...

Can’t wait for this to come out! But Dom I don’t think you should spawn with attachments, rather you find them throughout the map and you can take them from people you kill. I just feel like it will make it so you still have that feeling of changing mid battle but you can’t have a fully modded out gun right at the start of the game. I’m not a game developer though so i’ll let you do whatever you think is best.

The twril when you reload should change based on what parts are equipped. Because, youknow,, with realism the balance of the weapon changes how the gun spins.

I think the weapon inspect animations would be cooler if they were actually based on firearm field checks. Removing the mag, tapping it to make sure the rounds are properly seated. Then pulling back the bolt/slide to check the chamber to make sure its clear, checking the barrel for obstructions, then cycling the action a few times, to make sure the bolt/slide is moving smoothly. toggling the safety on and off to make sure its working, dry firing to test the trigger and hammer/firing pin. Then adjusting the optics to make sure its properly aligned. Then checking the stock and grip for looseness and damage. All purely cosmetic animations though so you can instantly fight when needed. People who know actual guns would appreciate the detail. If thats too much though, instead of just gawking at the gun, they could have a cloth and be whipping it down as they inspect it as then there is a reason they're looking at it.

i think in stead of a weapon part wheel you do something similar to what battle field 2042 did and have a little small menu for switching specific parts on parts of the gun instead of a long series of wheels or having preset ones you make in the home menu

I have no clue how you manage to crank out bangers every single update. The aesthetics are fantastic, and the decision to make the firing range have sharper angles really is a huge example of the massive difference small details can make. I would like to second another suggestion that I saw to add colour customisation, but I'd suggest it being more of a thing of being able to change individual colour channels. Personally, I always hate finding a perfect camo in COD or Shader in Destiny until I realise that the primary colour isn't quite right. One last thing, the weapon part wheel is fantastic, but a suggestion I would make as a method to potentially level the playing field would be the ability to save up to three presets, but you have to remake them each match. Bind could be 1-2-3 whilst having the weapon wheel open with the config you want.

Looking forward to the game! I added it on my steam wishlist. I am curious though about how you are going to balance weapons. Will the game have a damage fall off? Otherwise using faster firing guns at all ranges will be meta. Over all really cool game ideas! Can’t wait to see how you flesh it all out

Add secondaries that are also customizable, for example, a grappling hook which pulls you towards the thing/player that you hit, you could switch the hook to a hook that pulls the player towards you. Or add a hook that allows you to swing around like Spider-Man, but in return you can't latch on to players and you can't pull yourself towards the latch-point. (Yes I know this is a very bare bones concept but it would be really cool)

You should make it so that if you customize in the air the player will fall slower to allow them to have more satisfying combos. If you are thinking that this would make the game unfair, I would disagree, because by making the player move slower they become an easier target for other players to hit, making the vulnerability even out the over powering aspects of the idea.

The single problem I’ve always had with the game is that there is no dot for the reticle it’s just the plus shaped stuff. Maybe have a circle for the reticle and the circle is bigger based on spread of the gun? A really accurate gun’s reticle would be like this: . While one with high spread would be like this: ⭕️

My thoughts on the current part system with two examples: Currently, the parts system kind of feels like Mario Kart. You can customize your build, and get all sorts of stats, but at the end of the day it's just a racing game, not a kart building game. Don't get shot, and shoot the opponent. One of my favorite "gun building" games is Rounds. Here, the "parts" that you attach to your gun have a real definitive effect that changes not only your play style but your enemies as well. Now, rounds also does a good job allowing wacky combos which may be out of scope for this game, but it's something to consider while developing. Maybe the solution is just to crank the currently made parts up to 10. I don't know, that's for you to discover I think. I also recognize that I may not have a full grasp on this as I haven't played it for myself. Is it a gun building shooter or is it a shooter with gun building, you know?

Looking great, I know that part switching took some brainpower to code lol. I have a suggestion, I think the reload animation that flips the gun around is covering the center of the screen, which is the most important part, and might be a little distracting during gameplay

You should add a penetration stat to the game so that you can shoot through some boxes or even a wall if you have a high enough level in that stat

are you gonna add baseplates to make customizing faster, like one for shotguns pistols rifles snipers etc, because that would be a better way to make it faster, plus making it so you can save certain gun combos would be bad and kinda remove the fun of doing it on the fly which is why baseplates are better without making it to hard to change parts.

What about penetration through certain materials? Like materials could be either soft/medium/hard, and certain attachments could improve penetration like call of duty.

1:15 Battlefield 2042 uses this exact mechanic but instead of gun parts it has attachments, and it's a square

You should add an attachment that makes the gun into a grenade launcher, but it shoots like sticky grenades or something. could make for some super cool plays!

Noice! Although the switching on the fly looks fun for now, giving players the ability to handle any situation with the correct actions per minute is always prone to making players that use macros and the like perform much better. You mentioned TF2 that game is a lot of tech you can set up macros for, but I never did because you could always do it reasonably without a macro. having the ability to switch your weapon into any weapon on the fly sounds like a headache 😞.

I think you should make a battle royal mode where you have to find and upgrade your gun rather then find different weapons. Everyone starts with the same really bad Pistol.

How about an skill tree? But instead of doing it on a menu, do it between rounds, this way will be fair for new players, since the full skill tree will be available for everyone, but at the same time, experienced players will know the better options to use acording to the current match.
