very informative and easy to follow, thanks. Great channel. i'm digging into USD and it's hard to find where to start. Do you know for exemple how to transfert arnold subv parameter to a usd layer so all objets are subv at rendering? I'm sure it's possible but can't find it. USD is such a huge new concept. Thanks anyway for that nice channel!

Yes, that's tricky. First, make sure you're on Maya 2024.1 which has Maya-USD v23. Second, there's a bug with this on MacOS which I reported to the dev team. It does work on Windows. Third, SubDs will appear in the render but not in the viewport in USD. I believe that's by design. Finally, you make them in Maya in the usual way and then export to USD. If you want to change them in the USD you need to do this on the Arnold nodes under the Extra Attributes as the normal settings in the Attribute Editor for USD SubDivs have no effect.

Just re-read your question. This might be possible to do with sets and overrides. Haven't tried that yet.

I cant even get a sphere I saved as a usd to show up in the viewport. I add reference to the xform but nothing appears? Do you know why. I'm using maya 2024

You’d need to troubleshoot it. Try stage from file of each usd file
