For those curious like I was " The cape he wears is actually a WWII nurse cape. An accompanying hat seen in episode 9 is a Civil War Union soldier cap. Wirt's hat is made from what looks like a Santa hat with the fuzz cut off."

he has the cutest little face, i love how he turned out! you really did a great job sculpting and painting his face, i totally get the feeling of stop motion animation, and the outfit is super cute too!

The moment I saw the thumbnail, I thought he looked like a classic stop-motion puppet. He's absolutely beautiful.

For the future, with the eyes, you can create eyes that fit snugly in the sockets (so they hold in place) and in the center of the pupil is a pin hole- you then move the eyes using a pin. No internal mechanism needed! Faceplates...well, you have a 3D printer, so you're good to go! I studied stop motion in college (my profile picture is old haha) and fabrication is something I still do as a hobby. It's so much fun.

He does look like a handmade puppet and I think it suits his character well.

This has to be my favorite doll you ever made. Looks extremely delicate and indeed sort of "old school". The textures are gorgeous too. And I'll be honest, I'm genuinely happy when doll customization artists do male characters - it's unexpectedly rare.

I have a strange nostalgia for the Oz books, a set of turn of the century American Fantasy books, and having only seen Over the Garden Wall recently I just feel a wonderful kindred between the more savory parts of the fiction. Your version of Wirt is so beautiful and I could see him hanging out with the patchwork girl and going on adventures!

OMG I love him!! OtGW holds a very special place in my heart. I used to watch it with my little sister (and Gravity Falls too!) when she was ill. She is still recovering, but this two series remind me of how far she has come, that she is still with us and that the relationship among siblings is something precious. Amazing work 🤍

Oh, my favorite wannabe-Romantic artist! Wirt is so wonderful because he's so flawed, but earnest at the same time. His growth was a wonderful part of the story, and this doll is truly fantastic as a tribute to the character and his creator(s).

I grew up watching Over the Garden Wall, Boxtrolls, and Paranormal so this customization was a crazy nostalgia rush and the doll is beautiful.

Over the garden wall was a truly amazing show. Even though it was a limited edition sersies with a few episodes it most certainly made my childhood and shaped my creativity into what it is today. The little metal things used for suspender buckles are used in jewelry to clamp on the ends of leather or fabric strands to add clasps for necklaces or bracelets. Very cool use choice!

5:47 The mechanics that make the eyes move happen in stop motion in a few different ways. In something done in all clay, the pupils would get moved manually by the animator and then you’d check your work before committing to the next frame in your film with video previews (nineties, i.e. when I first learned). There might also be separate head models made that get swapped out. In these our modern times, you can also save time/money with a combination of stop motion and CG work done in post to clean stuff up like wonk eyes. There are mechanisms that can be built to move/blink eyes the way they would in a doll, but you can also cast a bunch of heads and swap them out. It comes down to time/money for your production.
