After few shots .. blow on to the bubble for making interesting colors and designs

Good explanation of creating the bubble mixture. I'd not heard of waiting overnight before using it. The camera's max sync speed should be listed in the camera manual. You also need to be shooting in Manual mode. The bigger the diffused light source, the better and getting the light close is very important. Gently blowing on the bubble with the straw can produce interesting swirl and eddy patterns. Very good instructions and demonstration.

what soft box and setup are you using? I'm looking for a setup like this with the boom arm, but I have no idea where to even start

This way is ok for starters but the problem with such a large bubble is the reflection of the diffuser, a smaller container is better but you then need a longer lens and maybe an extension tube or a macro lens.
