I think that the controversy surrounding Doechii's collab just mirrors the misogynoir, colorism, and selective outrage the public has on certain issues and people. Dark skin female rappers and celebrities alike have experienced controversy and the wrath of cancel culture that lights skin celebrities (excluding Nicki Minaj) have not experienced. For example, Azealia Banks is canceled for speaking her opinion and Cardi is still allowed to parade around the industry (not blaming Cardi but society). I also side-eyed Doechii for collaborating with Kodak but I think she separated the art from the artist. Love the video, as always love from NYC 💓
I'm so glad I found this video. I feel the same way with trying to balance my creative life and my job. The balance requires more discipline than people think. A HEALTHY balance.
I relate to Eni Popoola, because I'm pursuing a career in public relations but I'm also doing RU-vid. I'm concerned how my content can be perceived when applying for internships and networking; recently, a professional was impressed with my channel at a career fair, however, prior it sort of cost me an internship due to miscommunication (it's kinda long story lol) I agree with your thoughts on Doechii. I'm not a big fan of Kodak Black, but I understood this was a huge moment (both from florida - my home state😚) . My comments on the feature was reserved and I supported the song (so catchy). Also, I don't like the double standards placed on Doechii. Other artists have collaborated with Kodak Black and I didn't hear any demands for those artists to release solo versions. Nicki trademarking "Nicki Night", sounds interesting, but how does the licensing work? How much would it cost to get the license? Would it hinder Nicki Night since Barbz have to go through a process? However, as a marketing strategy, it's fully understandable if she were to and I could see how it could develop (maybe capture those days of nicki performing in her mixtape era).
