Cubic wood stoves are amazing for small spaces and made & from Quebec, Canada. I hope you guys enjoy the wood stove. I a lot of the tiny house communities do. Plus wood stove are great in general. When you have no power, you have a source of heat and cooking with a wood stove. 👍

Watched again....like the fiberglass tube for going up through the deck. I think we may do the same when we install our Cubic Mini, and possibly also put a stainless sheet around it as well. That’s the scariest part of me. But I understand now what you mentioned in the other video about the ventilation there. Looking forward to some nice dry air, and being toasty warm in southern South America! Thanks for doing the video!! -Rebecca

AND, you can cook on top of it if in comfortable seas :) We used to do that all the time when we had a wood stove in our last two homes... Wood heats you twice, once when you cut it and once when you burn it :)

I've got the cubic mini on my wooden boat in BC. I installed it this past winter, replacing a Dickinson diesel. I agree about the cub, you can get more of a coal bed so burns better. I didn't think it would fit my space.... but the smaller one still works well. What i can say about your install, is if you feel the tile gets too hot, try metal, spaced out a bit with plumbing fittings. on one side i put slate tiles, backed with concrete wallboard, and it still gets pretty hot. The feet get hot too, but that slate should work ok. On the back of my stove i found a small sheet of brass, spaced it off the wall, and it doesn't even get hot to the touch. So in hind sight, i'd have loved to do that on the other side. Again fire + old wooden boat... you want to be over protective! the other thing i have to say is it burns a lot of wood, as it doesn't quite work like a big wood stove where you can put a big log on and coast for awhile. when in use, you are often feeding it. So best to find maybe a bin you can keep a supply of wood in, and keep it dry. Same with the paper, all a bit tougher to do in a marine environment. I'm lucky as i'm on a dock, and have a place to store my winter supply of wood, so that's a bit different to your situation for sure. All just tips, i LOVE, LOVE this wood stove, it was a game changer for me this past winter as i live on board full time.

Like the stove a lot! its the perfect size for that space! Pro tip: A wet paper towel (you can use a rag but you'll never get it clean again) dipped in the ashes will clean the soot off the glass very nicely without having to use chemicals. Make sure the stove is cold before you do this! And if you let the stove heat up as much as you dare before you fully close the door, the soot doesn't accumulate so fast.

Hey Dan and Kika! I’ve been following your incredible journey and never cease to be impressed by your creativity, ingenuity, and great chemistry. You’ve come up with so many clever ideas and solutions. It’s truly mind boggling. Just thought I’d let you two know about something I discovered recently that people are going crazy over. I noticed you don’t have a washing machine. I’ve recently watched many RV’ers who use these little mini washing machines that have washer and dryer. They cost around $100 CAD, draw very little power, clean quickly and efficiently, and come in all sorts of flashy colours (I know you two are very artsy). Anyways, those RV’ers are going crazy over these little things. They’re raving on and on about how they clean better than home washing machines! The first time I heard that I was sceptical, but after watching so many similar reviews, you can’t help but be intrigued. When you see grown ass men going crazy over *washing machines* , you know they ain’t jiving. They couldn’t believe how well they worked, and for the price! Anyway. Just thought I’d put that out there. I know you’re embarking on a big voyage soon and thought it could be the perfect creature comfort to complete your floating home and make your journey as enjoyable as possible. Love you guys! -Polly

We have a large stove/fireplace in my man cave that looks a bit like your tiny one. Three things. One: If Uma is closed up, say at night while you're sleeping, don't forget that an enormous amount of oxygen is used. So make sure you have sufficient fresh air coming in as breathing is also a good thing too, you may recall :-). And Two: If you want to clean the glass, the cheapest and easiest way is to have a little spray bottle with a small amount of vinegar mixed with fresh water. We've tried commercial products and this works better than any of them. Just spray a bit of the mix on the warm glass and wad some newspaper dampened with the bottled mixture, then daub the wad in the ashes and wipe the glass. A relatively small amount of elbow grease and ashy moisture will clean that glass beautifully. It really is amazing how well this works. And lastly, Three: Make sure you clean the flew periodically as burning wood (especially if you burn any of a composite nature) can build up creosote which can, well, explode. That pipe gets HOT! Cheers, stay warm and safe, and I'm glad you didn't put a stove on the settee, cuz that's your "couch!"

This fire pit is one of a few covered pits that is on the list ru-vid.comUgkxAU9pOCSV9Y5JprooHvfxTpOrt4hx8uRM of approved products for Disney Fort Wilderness. The product served its purpose well and provided excellent fires throughout the evening. We were able to open the door and do s'mores, but I had to be careful because the handle was a bit hot on occasions. Additionally, I wish they had replaced some of the standard nuts with lock nuts in some places. We lost the door handle after just a couple of days of usage. Not a deal breaker, just a recommendation. I still give it 5 stars.

Once again, a wonderful job! I agree 100% with having the wood stove! It will remove the damp cold within an hour and nothing beats a wood stove... you will always find wood anywhere. The black soot on the glass can be avoided burning it hotter and less wood in the stove. (more air and less wood) Of course load it up and run it with less air over night while sleeping as you choose. You'll get the soot but that's easily removed with a wet rag and ashes from the stove(only when the glass is cold!) Dip the wet rag into the ash and rub it into the glass....the soot comes off very easy without spending money on chemicals. I have lots of wood stove tips. Heating my home 24/7 for 25 years now, NY winters ;)

Awesome! I put a grizzly in my boat last year! Word fantastic, looks great and word very well, but you’ll need a fan to circulate the air or the ceiling will get damaged by the heat. Also do your best to avoid softwood for fuel as it will create a lot more creosote in the chimney., and hardwood will produce more heat. For longer burn times, try the man made fire logs.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but you may want to look out for an eco fan / stove fan. They work by thermoelectric so don't need a powersupply you just sit one on top of the stove. They are exceptionally good at moving the heat around the boat and they are not expensive.

Hi guys! It has been a while. I thought I'd check in with one of my very favorite channels. You two are very innovative! Great stuff. Here are a few tips for stoves on board. 1. Keep the pipes clean. Built up creosote in the pipes causes the majority of boat fires with wood stoves. Creosote is resistant to heat and flame until it goes up and then it burns too hot! 2. Air. Ventilation is important below decks as stoves give off a certain amount of carbon monoxide. 3. When possible, burn hard woods like oak, hickory, locust, cherry, maple, etc as opposed to softwoods like pine, spruce, and hemlocks. Pine sticks are for starting wood stove fires, not for heating. Soft wood burns up too quickly and has tons of creosote making potential. 4. Not all marinas are appreciate of those heating with woodstoves, so check first BEFORE paying the dock fees. 5. There is more opportunity to heat with woodstoves while moored or at anchor but for the long term, there isn't anywhere to stack the wood. My friend and sometimes mentor, Tristen Jones actually built a special dingy with inner tubes to float his wood supply when moored for a long stretch. 6. While at sea, be sure the firewood is bundled well! A single flying stick on a rough wave can knock you senseless. My friend Mike always used bunjee cords for bundles. 7. if you have been using the stove for an extended period, actually check the area around the pipe insert above deck to be sure your deck isn't at risk for melting or catching fire. 8. Finally, sails and fire do not mix. You may want to consider a screen at the pipe exit to prevent extra large embers from contacting your sails while at sea. People have been heating with wood since boats ventured forth upon the high seas and as long as you think safety first, wood stoves are among the best ways to heat!

@tiborkiss9186 5 лет назад
Interesting idea. When using compressed wood, bear in mind that it burns at higher temperature than "normal" wood - the glass door on our stove (in the house) cracked once due to this. As for heating: you may consider infrared heating film - you can put it under the matrac, or stick it to the ceiling - there are models which go from 12v. I already installed it a few times, it is easy - you just need a cheap thermostat to control the panel temperature.

Really nice job fitting the stove in. I do believe you have the best and most creative set up boat I have ever seen. Very well done!

I have been thinking about a wood fired heater for a long time. Your well through out installation was is most impressive.

Great addition to go North. I was wondering how you two would make it without the tropics. Stove is the heart of a wood boat as well.

Little hint. if you take a little water and some ash from your fire into a liquid almost paste ,it will scrub that glass nice and clean no scratches

Fantastic job Team Uma! You guys for sure have a future in boat interior design with your ability to visualize a different way of doing things. A semi-custom builder would snap you two up in a second, or just start your own interior design consulting shop. The first time I saw a Cubic Mini was from another RU-vidr several years ago called Curtis Westsail. Not sure what ever happened to him, but his little stove worked wonderfully. Enjoy!!!

Great research to discover this tiny and cute heat source. Your plan for making the area your own was ingenious and beautifully executed! Well done! Fair winds and warmth to you guys!

Yay, another design episode (as opposed to diy. Yours are always more than just diy). I was afraid we’d never see another.

Give the fire all air it needs at all time. This will prevent a lot of problems.
