I'm guessing she'd rather not try to correct what the next director for the 3rd one did. As most directors don't like doing. Most directors want to make various different types of movies that make all of their projects look vastly different and unique so people of different audiences and fans will know them for all of it. But yeah, I guarantee the 4th movie would've been WAAY more heartfelt and serious

She's drawing on a cintiq, mostly likely a 22 or 24hd. She's using photoshop to draw :)

it's actually more complicated than that and it depends on the studio. some are more script driven, some (like cartoon network) are storyboard driven (for which writers mostly provide rough outlines/ideas). and all modern animation, especially feature animation, typically has to deal with a lot of heavy leaning from company executives, producers, executives, etc. it's a very messy and labor intensive industry.

maya kern Shame that it's a complicated process to share a story, but at least it works.
