I traded with a guy on a subreddit for 30 ml of a "vintage batch" of GIT. Now I had been familiarized with the scent from a decant I purchased and fell in love with this sparkling green freshie. This "vintage" smells way more earthy(almost like wet hey)and doesen't have the beautiful opening. Is this common of older batches? Or has something in the fragrance went bad?
@@uncouthLIyouth the fresh green opening of your vintage must've gone down after ages. I mean, it's not a super dark potent juice that might last for decades.
By the way Mr Smelly where could I buy a vintage bottle like that if I live in the U.S.? Also how many hours of longevity / projection are you getting from that bottle ?
When someone has some background prior to becoming RU-vidr. Worse is when some are this lab hamster and your cage is a RU-vid, you grew up with an iphone and the phone is a lens thru you see the world.
I love Creed Green Irish Tweed GIT and I'm only 25 lol truly enjoy it very masculine & classy I've gotten compliments on it and ironic enough I'm a gardener or landscaper so I work outdoors & definitely smells very natural & similar lush fresh cut green grass / floral smell .
I have a bottle from around 2017. The bottle looks amazing and smells great, however I prefer Parfum Vintage's Emerald Isle which is an inspiration of the vintage GIT. There is a definite difference between the two - GIT is more floral and bright, whereas Emerald Isle is a lot stronger and has more depth with the sandlewood. Love it
Absolute masterpiece. I think the performance issues are more recent than 2016. My previous bottle was 2016 & lasted all day, my recent 2019 lasts about 5-6 hrs.
Yo Smelly, just got my bottle of Gravitas just in time for summer in AZ, LOL! Smells nice, man, really happy. Also, the presentation is top notch and the sprayer is the nicest of any of my 60+ bottles. My vote is that you put a spin on the classic Italian citrus fragrance for your next release.
The best review of GIT as well as the trivia of Creed's history! Also thanks for pointing out that 2016 was the batch where the performance went downhill, I'll try to find the older bottles-much appreciation for this vid!
Another really great review. Enjoy the history lesson. Run a clone of GIT in spring. Kudos to Creed for capturing the smell of dewy green countryside. Elegant cologne. Elegant review.
Verily I think you are the best fragrance reviewer on youtube. Do you have a favourite Creed? I've just bought clones of Aventus and GIT (because quite frankly both are simply too expensive to justify their purchase on my salary). Kind regards from South Africa.
I hope you find time to compare GIT vs Carven Pout Homme, some say this is if not a clone or inspiration a perfume with similarities, I just purchase it and I found it a very nice, this has violet leaf as the dominant note, strong but in balance with nutmeg, cedar and vetiver and with a refreshing and sparkling grapefruit as top note.... great review Dan!
Definitely one of the best portraits of GIT...mine is from 2019...definitely worse in performance than a sample I had in the past. Doesnt last barely 5h...the sample I had last a whole day and was noticeable even the day after.
Same here. I’m more than disappointed with longevity and sillage of the newest formulation. I barely get 3-4 hrs...terrible. Not worth the price they’re asking
I think this was reformulated, but get this....it's LONGER LASTING. The lady in selfridges sprayed it for me and it stayed in my damn wrist till next day. That's of course why I own it now and honesty, easy signature worthy.
They should get rid of the black bottle and bring back the original which is what you’re showing. I hate not being able to see the liquid. Also, GIT is amazing, but it just doesn’t last at all. I get 2 hours out of my batch; not good
I have bought and used GIT for over 30 years, sadly, it's not the same! I've made my last purchase of Creed, it's too expensive for the quality it has now become, doesn't quite smell the same, has no longevity, no one comments on it anymore...
The older pre-2015 formulation bottles are noticeably better imo. It’s somewhat flat now and has lost that magic sparkle and natural juiciness of the earlier bottles. I have a bottle from 2014 and one from 2019 so have compared them side by side. The longevity and depth is definitely superior with my pre-2015 bottle as well. Cheapened to maximise profits while cutting manufacturing costs? Most likely👎🏻
I wonder if the glory of the older formulations are simply due age. Certainly Creed reformulates, but I wonder if it really is such a problem. I have and older and newer bottle...they seem similar to me.
@@dusanninic5372 I disagree. Being green doesn't necessarily mean it's a Fougere. The prototypical Fougere accord, recognized by most perfumers, is really the lavender-coumarin accord. Whether or not coumarin is actually a note in the composition or not. GIT really isn't prototypically fougere.
@@JT-rx1eo You are correct, but because of the freshness, some people will say that GIT can be a fougere. For me, Fougere Royal by Houbigant is the best fougere fragrance I've ever tried, and Beau de Jeur is the worst !
@@dusanninic5372 I have Houbigant Fougere Royale (2010) and I agree it's a fantastic modern interpretation of the classic Fougere. It's similar to Amouage Bracken Man. Bea de Jour is my favorite "barbershop" fougere. I'm surprised you would like Fougere Royale but not Beau de Jour.
One of the greatest Creed creations. I have 2011 and 2018 bottles: they don't perform that differently, neither is a beast but I like the 2018 for top notes freshness that 2011 no longer has. I don't buy the Pierre Bourdon story: he did not create anything remotely close on the niche side (even though multiple iconic designer frags), but he could have been a collaborator, maybe? How else you can explain him getting away with practically cloning it 2 years later for Davidoff??? :) PS To this day, I have not found a perfect clone of this one, with Chez Bond being the closest, yet not close enough.
@@MrSmelly1977 Olivier created some serious niche big hitters while Pierre really hasn't... That's how I do my reality check :) 2011 batch lasts a little longer but once it started running low, I got current batch at the time and wasn't disappointed. I assume some of the batch variation rumors are spread by people buying frags from questionable sources where they can be tempered with (diluted, not stored correctly or simply counterfeit), maybe?
@@sergemunitz1153 its the only explanation lol, and there is a reason Frederic Malle hired him, because of his talent and experience. French Lover is a far better no holds bard version of spice & wood, Pierre has made some of the most iconic fragrances in the last 50 years, remember "niche" wasn't really around back then, for the most part these master perfumers made perfume for the big designer brands thats all there was for the longest time.
I love this scent but the performance of my 2020 bottle is a joke. This wonderful GIT blast in the opening then...nothing. Barely a skin scent after half an hour. I can drench myself in it, barely any difference. Doesn’t even stick to my clothes. How is it possible to justify dropping $400 on this? Edit: batch code of my bottle is 19U01
@@MrSmelly1977 Dan, ironically enough I was on Luckyscent's site doing another "lockdown" samples haul and I'm went to look at GIT but as luck would have it they are out of samples ugh lol. Needless to say thanks to you I've blind bought a few bottles plus samples!
My first impression 3 years ago was brilliant on Green Irish Tweed. Smelled like fresh cut grass. Because I could not afford it, I bought Armaf Tres Nuit as a clone instead and was massively disappointed, zero performance, not that GIT vibe expected that I had in mind, then degraded to being my gym scent until it was finished. Recently I discovered Parfums Vintage Emerald Isle which seemed to be extremely close to GIT and smelled much better
You’ re right man. All of those reviewers saying Tres Nuis is 95% similar are lying and probably are paid by Armaf to say so. That clone sucks so bad. It doesn’t smell similar at all !
Still my all time favourite scent. Unbelievable levels of class. Refuse to use clones of it, nothing meets the original. Hope Gravitas becomes the next legend, good sir.
Thank you Demi. Always love your reviews. I disagree about Green Irish piss:). I mean for the green Irish tweed. Opening is good but then dry down < 10 mins, it smells like a urine. Yes, you hear me right. I thought there was something wrong with my bottle so I got sample from neiman marcus and still the same. DONT BUY IT. Don’t piss your money away:) Hopefully this will help people to save few hundred dollars and can use it for something worthy.
