This whole album got my dad through everything. We buried him Wednesday. We jammed it at his funeral. It got him through pain, so it's helping us now. Miss you so much dad. You were my best friend. See you soon
This song helped me deal with depression throughout my teenage years. I didn't ever confide in anyone about it but this song was a healing force during those tough times. Heck, it STILL IS!!
Well now you can better help others that struggle. When you walk those dark roads and then come out and into the light a little bit, that’s the only way. Now you can help other struggling humans. Am I right?! Aloha!
God saved me from my darkness. I learned that Jesus is literally everything--He is what fills the voids in our souls. Praying the Holy Rosary every day has changed my life through God's grace. Hope you are doing well, God bless.
Lee, I realize this is 2 years on but your words were my exact thoughts. That particular line brought tears to me when I heard this song yesterday (after many years)
It’s a wonderful song but it doesn’t have to be about God, who obviously doesn’t exist, it can be about just any dream of a better world. If you follow ‘god’s’ light you’ll be led to committing genocide, the enslavement of others and justify child bone cancer as the mysterious ways of the Lord. Save yourself and open your eyes. Religion is evil and those good people among you who are blinded, you need to know that religion is the root of almost all cruelty and injustice in this world
I think the message is about him wanting to leave the real world. He wants to enter the dream world because real world is full of hate and he is sick and tired of it. He wants the real world to be like the wonderful dream world
I love how he talks about heaven, and visiting when he’s asleep. And how it’s so beautiful, he doesn’t want to wake up. “Let’s ask can we stay”. And also how, no matter how precious those dreams are to him, he’s rather not dream, if those dreams could become a reality. Looove this song.. I can’t wait for the day until I’m with our LORD, on those beautiful paved golden streets
Not trying to hate or anything but it says it came out 12 years ago on the official video so that would be impossible. But id im just dumb than im sorry for both of your losses and i know how it feels... i just lost my aunt whom i was bery close with.
@@punkinprincess854 Then there's a typo on the video, or the video was made after the song was actually released as a single. I still have my original copy of the Creed Album 'Human Clay' Higher was first released on, from 1999. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Clay#Track_listing
There are people in the world who DON’T hate Creed. I think they are absolutely fantastic, and one of the most under appreciated rock bands probably in history.
Look for the video where the Beastie boys talk about Creed... The way they paid homage to Scott we big but also hilarious... The title of the interview is the hiatus is back off again
I learned to plau drums to this album and really fell into the bs narrative that Creed is some 'poser' band. Im 35 now and really appreciate what they did. Most bands will never have 10% of the success they had and they legitimately touched the lives of thousands.
@Les Paul oh hush, if you so believe in science then tell me how the earth was created. It wasn't by two rocks clicking together to make some explosion and magicly create the earth!!! Who believes this bullshit!
@Les Paul #1 what's aldo??? Apparently your "half used piece of garbage brains" never experienced the real world, #2 I never once claimed "Jesus to be a white man" he is actually Jewish, #3 I won't go to the doctor at all if I'm sick all there gonna do is test me or give me a x ray etc, and never say what's wrong! Whoever thought bullshit doctors actually help the real world is full of crap. Back thousands of years ago Native Americans used resources around them to stay alive, they didn't need some doctor to magicly cure them. And they had more of a chance to live then an average American, because there were not gonna be put on life support for the rest of there lives!
"20th Century Fox invites you to enter a universe without rules, without laws, without limits. After Earth ends, the adventure begins. Titan A.E, get ready for the human race!" That trailer still gives me goosebumps years later.
The song is literally about Scott Stapp's connection to God and his Christianity. He spoke in a 2013 interview about his connection to God when he wrote the words and then when he sang the words and while learning the words, he "felt the Holy Spirit "
I cried out of nowhere singing this song right after visiting church and im not even christian. I think there is something in this song. It's powerful. I first heard it in 2nd grade or so and now I'm 26 still loving it
He did make a statement about the song meaning if you just look it up. Maybe he did say that at the interview I guess. But his statement is searchable on this.
I think this song has dozens of layers of meaning, it all depends on your outlook on life. Life can be depressing and you feel like you can't take anymore, but it can also feel like the love you have for the people around you lifts you above the darkness of the world. That's what I love about these older songs compared to what the music industry is churning out today. These songs have real meaning that can connect with you on a deeper level. They're not just words.
This was an incredible song! There are lot of haters that hate on Creed all the time, but Creed was one of kind and no one else sounded anything like them. Scott had a major style about him and it has never been duplicated to this day :) I believe this song is about his depression. When we could escape the world by dreaming, that made him a happier person.
Remember one of the first time hearing this song in 2003 on the radio and my old and was driving. I remember how I was thinking of how I loved the song and suddenly my father got a full blown seizure behind the wheel and crashed the car into an older woman that went flying in the air. Everyone was shrieking and I remember screaming and crying. The woman lay injured in the street and when my father came to and realised what had happened he had a massive heart attack, he died that day. I fainted. His funeral was held soon after and the woman made a full recovery. I miss you dad, your always with me.
What an outstanding effort from Creed! Scott’s voice is as close as you’re gonna find to Eddie Vedder- a growling baritone with something REAL to say. I’m thankful he’s mentally healthy again and ready to trod the stage. A Creed reunion would sell out in a heartbeat!! Keep up the GREAT job Scott!!! We’re all praying for you!! 🙏 ~K.
Have been praying for Scott since I learned of his bipolar disorder and all of that. He's an incredibly gifted songwriter and singer. May he soar ever higher, here and later!
I listened to this song after my grandma passed away and it fits her perfectly and now that my papa is gone too, this song reminds me of both my grandparents. They were great people and never be forgotten. Rest Easy gramma n papa. :*
This song has been mine and my best friends friendship song for 22 year's. It just seemed so perfect in our teens. We were wild and we lived life to the fullest and allway's had fun but we both often felt troubled. She didn't have an easy youth and i had my own struggles. Our friendship was our treasure and our strength through all the hard times and we allway's had each other's backs. When i first heard this song i knew it just seemed perfect as our friendship song. She just sent it to me wich is why i'm here. 22 year's and now we are grown with our own families/children etc but those memories that we shared will live forever. We had so many good times. I love you Beanie! 🥰
I'm so sorry to hear about your nephew, it's very tragic to know that he died at such age and hopefully he is the right place and resting well there.god bless.
Icebears4ever Don't pay them any attention. Most of them are Creed fans and are scarred to admit it. It's always funny to see people act like they are the worst thing to ever happen and come to find out they own every album. Most of these people are what I call sheep. They can't form an opinion for themselves so they follow the crowd and too often it's in a very negative way. They are afraid to admit they like Creed, Black Veil Brides, Nickleback, new Metallica, new Kiss, or Marilyn Manson so they follow the rest of the sheep and lead a dull, emotionless life and end up bitter. I mean, why is it so bad to like Creed, Black Veil Brides, or any other band? It's all music and you shouldn't be ashamed to like any band or artist. I proudly admit I like Creed along with Marilyn Manson, new and old Metallica, new and old Kiss, some Nickleback, Cannibal Corpse, KoRn, Annihilator, Papa Roach, Megadeth, Venom, Motorhead, some Black Veil Brides, or Black Sabbath because it's all great music and it makes me feel the emotion the normal day to day life style doesn't allow you to let out. I have said the same thing since the 90's. It doesn't matter if you like Poison or Testament, it's all opinion based and they are great in their own way. Have a great day/night and rock on!
RainingBlood97 Thanks for that comment, I fully agree. I hate that music magazines ranked Creed as one of the worst bands, I mean just listen to today's music... I'm not much of a music guy, I'm a movie geek (and screenwriter) and I notice the exact same things there. People don't want to admit that the new Simpsons episodes are really good, because they want to be "proud children from the 90s". I agree, The Simpsons was better before but the new seasons are also really good. In fact so good that I've been watching The Simpsons every Sunday for 14 years.
Icebears4ever Yep, it's the same for film, music, art, etc. If a movie or album gets a very negative review I will watch it before one that got all good reviews because 9 times out of 10 it's going to be a great album or movie despite the bad reviews by failed musicians or actors. Like when the Underworld film series first came out, I wasn't planning on watching because I wasn't too into the vampire and werewolf stuff besides Blade but I seen some of the bitter reviews by critics so I decided to watch it and it has become one of my favorite film series along with Die Hard, Rocky, Blade, and Predator (just to name a few). And on The Simpsons: I have honestly enjoyed the new episodes of Simpsons, Family Guy, etc. Yeah the older episodes are better but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the new episodes just because the old fire that made the show so good years ago isn't there anymore, it has a new fire and honestly isn't that bad when you compare it to some of the TV shows that are thrown out without any thought whatsoever now, I mean I just seen a new series coming to Animal Planet where it's about getting cats out of trees.
Icebears4ever I'm not sure anybody actually hates Creed, but I think there are people who don't like them because the lead singer is almost laughably unintelligible. When looking at the lyrics of this song, I discovered that I only understood maybe 15% of it beforehand. That doesn't mean the song is bad, but some people take lyrics a little too seriously and will hate something if they can't hear it. For me personally, I like music for the sound and the and the general message they put across, both of which I liked this song for. On the note of mumbling lead singers, the same can be said about Pearl Jam. Both are great bands but sometimes they might as well just be humming.
Heard this song forever, first time hearing the lyrics. I felt sad thinking of how I wanted to go back to sleep and dream instead of wake up and hustle again quote unquote but then I thought of all the moments in life that feel better than dreams this is what we have to strive for...those golden moments of love and joy and challenging ourselves through new hobbies and passions and seeing the world. Peace love and blessings to all!
Creed always manages to have awesome guitar intros *_* I just love Creed so much...I've never really thought of Creed as a Christian band, but I know some people do. That's the beauty of music and art, you can see it from any point of view and it still sounds amazing :')
I have always loved this band....it's such a powerful song that they sing and it great how he sings his beliefs and still keeps his rock and roll style.
1999 I was 11 years old now I have responsibilities I have to pay bills I miss those days when me and my friends will gather round the radio waiting for a new album to drop when this album came out me and my friends were all at a school called the California school for the blind in Fremont California we all had families that were on drugs and they are all still on drugs but when we heard this song we all thought of a new idea called peaceful place when you go to sleep and you have peaceful dreams Scott said at sunrise I fight to stay asleep because I don’t wanna leave the comfort of this place well when I have my peaceful dreams that reminds me of today all the BS in the world Scott Stapp you are the man take me away my peaceful place
Based off the lyrics in the very beginning I believe It's about depression and wanting to escape by going to heaven. Also because sleep was the only way I could get relief from depression until I was healed by Jesus. I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for God. Call me a liar and fake but I swear to you it really happened. An evangelist asked if anyone needed healing so I went to the front for a healing and thought to myself this is bullshit and one of the men laid hands on me in Jesus name and I instantly felt depression lift off me and happiness rush into it's place. It couldn't have been physiological because I did not believe it would work. It did work and the only explanation is God saved me from myself. I've never been happier in my life and one day I will see those golden streets. I
+TheAaronmcmahon11 I am so happy to hear that you found healing in Jesus Christ! I am a strong believer and in every situation of my life where I felt depressed I relied on him and that everything will be fine..... I am so sad at the moment bc I got the notice, that my first love of 18years ago made suicide this weekend..... We have been in touch all over the years, but I never knew he was depressed. I only knew he had a problem with alcohol. A few weeks ago he wrote to me and said he was happy and everything is going well.. I believed, that everything was fine :( .. If I just started to talk about Jesus to him... I would have loved that he got saved .... Now I hope he is in heaven knowing he was so loved, and waiting for all of his family and friends to see him again.
+Christine Schranz I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Thanks for sharing your personal story. I wish he had found relief. Unfortunately it sounds like his relief was in a bottle and it can only cover up so much. I wish everyone could get prayer like I did. Andrew Womack is a great teacher on healing. I like to listen to some of his teachings. He believes everyone deserves and can be healed no matter what. Because the Bible says "by his stripes we are healed." No strings attached. No hoops to jump through and no cost because it was already paid by the ultimate price Jesus made through his death.
+TheAaronmcmahon11 If a Christian that truly believes in Jesus Christ kills themself, do they still go to hell? I've always wondered about suicide, as it has never been stated in the bible that killing oneself is a sin
+TheAaronmcmahon11 I was healed from depression as well, and I definitely believe you. Keep sharing your testimony and bringing healing to others. That's what makes you special and unique in a way where you can reach people who are still struggling with what you are no longer dealing with. He's definitely alive!
I believe you. I have a bad case of Bi polar that often gives me symptoms of Schizophrenia. I prayed and meditated to the Lord on it, and he gave me great days before I finally was able to attain medicine. God is Awesome. [And not in a California surfer way :P ]
Waking up from lucid dreaming is the worst. I love being able to live my dreams. Thank you to that sacred space in time between 1988 and 2010. (Yes, even up to 2010)
I've never had a good dream in my 57 + years..but I do know that my perfect vision of Heaven includes my Dad and a hundred beloved dogs in some beautiful place somewhere across the Universe
Joseph Kelly Christian means to be Christ like. And to the other guy. Just because you sing about God, doesn't mean you're a Christian rock band. Johnny Cash was Christian, he sang about God, but he wasn't a Christian band. Get a grip.
zoned247 how did you come up with such fiction and cooked up story about scare tactic? Christ was and is real and so does Christianity (it is not a religion, it's in believers' heart, the one which we see in churches is just a physical group of people coz people need a group for their souls to survive, again I'm not talking about surviving this life on earth) some scriptures in the scrolls were there even before Christ was born, the word of God (Bible) touches anyone who thirst for it being weak or strong minded, it may make no sense to you coz it already speaks in 1 Corinth 1:18 For the message of the cross is to them that perish, foolishness but unto us that are saved it is the power of God'. I'm not judging or condemning you or anything like that, but all I'm saying is, you have not experienced Jesus in your heart and taste 'Faith' which is the solid proof for everything about God, just because you can't see about it, doesn't mean it's fake, you can't see what I'm thinking either and it is not fake
zoned247 I already told you from 1 Corinthians, it would make no sense to you, this verse was there since around 2k years back way before your idea of non existence. Your first paragraph, it's the same which I just said above, but with a little misconception, your second paragraph, ''events that never happened''?? from where did you get that? all those written in the scriptures did happen, I have seen with my own eyes, events happen till today like a guy cured from cancer in the name of Jesus, people who believe in Jesus didn't get even a scratch after a fatal car rollover and it hangs on the cliff edge, so spreading lies won't help your doubts, i have never seen an ill person so happy and smile before his death cos that's one assurance that Jesus can give us, that's the difference between a believer and non believer your third paragraph, ''just a clever guy''? really? a clever guy can raise people from the dead after buried with in three days?? and i do realised you believe in evil too or else how in the world spreading love, forgiveness and grace would piss off any soul on earth?? and buddy, your idea of a church is very wrong, read the bible first, then comment, the church is about a group of believers in Christ who also have to be Christ like and just like charcoals burning together to create fire and heat cos alone it would die, so does christians need a church
When dreaming I'm guided to another world Time and time again At sunrise I fight to stay asleep 'Cause I don't want to leave the comfort of this place 'Cause there's a hunger, a longing to escape From the life I live when I'm awake.
I dont believe in god.. But I hope that there is a place like that. Place like heaven. When we can be forever happy with those who left this earth. Fly my brother... Someday I will join you. Fly my grandmother... I will listen to your wise stories again.
I am a christan and I love the lord.he payed for our sins and right now is protecting everybody from evil even if you aren't christan , cause god loves everyone even if they don't feel the same way. AMEN!!!
Amanda Digirolamo honestly wish that was the reality and that easy but the only way we will stay happy and protected is believing in ourselves and othet, treating each other with love and respect, with that we don't need to pray that a higher power may or may not be there for us because it's just random luck in the end, my best friend was a Christian and very religious also one of the nicest people you will ever meet, every one loved him but hedied in a car crash at the age of 38, and yes you can say he's in a better place but I can't imagine a place better than with his kids and wife that he loved. I gave up on religion and faith after that and I just came to realize life is not fair and the best I can do is be a good person for the time I'm here and hopefully others can do the same
can u take me higher where I have no desire where all my senses loose their selfness and I feel what I'm- I feel what I'm not leaving all troubles and nots I belong to the God's under can u take me so higher?
HAPPY EASTER WORLD 🙏😇. HE DIED FOR US TO BE HERE NOW, 100%, CONTEMPLATE THAT, BE THANKFUL FOUR OUR GOD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST, I LOVE YOU ALL. "LET'S GO THERE!"
Pretty sure that he's struggling with depression when the song was written. Very powerful lyrics. Depression is very serious, very difficult to have it just go away. When you hit the battle of,depssion you definitely want to stay asleep and just basically live by dreaming, sleeping is a comfort place where myself anything can happen, where for me I sleep in order of not having to see all the hate and crime that's destroying me and many people. I would love to have golden streets and miracles of seeing a blind man actually see again. He wants to go there where anything is possible Amazing song, powerful lyrics, one of the best songs I've ever heard. I want and eventually see this place and ask beg if I need to in order for me to stay.
He's basically asking for everyone to love and forget about all of the hate and and replace it with love. Being awake then would not see anymore hate, everyone would be kind to each other, no war, no more mass shootings, be no more depression, we would be living with nothing but love and friendship in this world. Amazing how one song can have so much meaning. Bottom line is that we can ask our higher power to do something or have one person show you a better life even when you are depressed or have so much hate that even they can go there and ask if i/ we can stay...
Just an incredible song when it came out! Was played on our local radio station lots of time back in the day, a big hit for Creed! Scott Stapp's vocals is unique fits the band fine as a glass of sparkling wine! :-)
Thank your mother for giving you life. Thank your friends for being there. Thank them for being proof of existing. Don't thank a god you can't prove exists.
This band is legendary. Scott Stapp and Mark Tremonti captured lightning in a the bottle with this band and throwing Scott Phillips on the drums was the icing on the cake. He's an extremely underrated drummer in my humble opinion.
