I,ve always wondered the same thing, are creek chubs edible? Just figured must be bad cause I never heard of anyone tiring them. We have some monster chubs here in Indiana up to 12 in. Could actually fillet one. I will for sure try one next time.

Singing nettles. One of my favorite greens. Before they flower, I snip the stem with the top six leaves. They lose all their sting pretty much as soon as they hit hot water. I like to can them too. Ate them three times this past week. Dice one strip of bacon. Sizzle fry, add 1 pint nettles with the water. When it boils I shut off the heat. Eat 'em straight out out of the pan. :) (Recommend letting them cool first.)

I caught a couple of big creek chubs as a kid and brought them home, all proud, wanting my dad to clean them so we could eat them. He said we aren't eating that garbage and threw them in the outside trash can.

For stinging nettles, when you get stung, spit on the area where you got stung. it will relieve the pain instantley

nice man btw for big or small creek chub use ujka crankbaits (if you can find them) i mainly use a black, silver, fluo ujka od a rainbow or brown trout ujka.

They aren't very picky when it comes to bait. I've caught them with hotdogs quite successfully.

Izaak Walton wrote in The Compleat Angler that chubs are table fare, if you know how to dress them. The ones I've seen you catch are far from their European counterparts though. The ones on the West Coast are nearly that big though and I'm curious how it'd turn out. Unfortunately, the Owens tui chub is a threatened species, so it's out of the question, unless I go to Oregon, which I don't think is worth it.

Man that's weird, is that an average chub wherever you are? Here in northwest arkansas they range from like 6-12 inches! And they LOVE rooster tails.

Truthfully there isn`t much that walks and crawls that you can`t eat , you missed the best one though. a 2-3 lb catfish just cut a small enough slit in his belly to remove the vitals ,have a decent campfire going now stick s large stick thru his mouth to tail like a hotdog now cookem jently over the fire when the skin starts blistering and bubbling the meat is ready. we always brought bread and mayo along ,no problem to sort the bones when you make your mayo sandwich ,it is a very good way to cook catfish. and for sides you can catch a couple dozen crawfish and break their tails off and lay them on a hot rock for about 1-11/2 min ,they are much better that way than the way they cook in the south. tastes just like shrimp. and if you really want to spaz up on your meal add some chick monk to the menu they taste like their preseason-ed. makes for a good evening out on the bank.
