Amen to that my friend. George Romero is one the greats in horror cinema history. (Night Of The Living Dead, Dawn Of The Dead, Day Of The Dead, Land Of The Dead, Creepshow, Creepshow 2.
Part 2 topped It imo but both are legendary. Creepshow 2's Intro music Is off the fucking chain , someone was playing for dear life like a gun was pointed to their head.
isacloboz The father has a major issue with his son reading a horror comic book, but has no problem with pics of Dracula or bats hanging from the ceiling? lol I never understood that.
@@LadyDi4476 eh by 1982 Dracula was seen as a classic culturally significant movie because it was "old" kinda like how something seen as trashy to one generation is classy to the next Yes I know 4 years a little late but still XD
...Because at the age of 9 seeing the creeper outside your window smiling at night always makes you feel safe and cozy enough to smile back... because seeing him brings happiness to your heart... and that laughter.... Such loving and warm laughter....
I was going to say, look at the kid's alternative. You're comment gets a lot funnier when you realize that the kid is played by Stephen King's RL son Joe (now the novelist Joe Hill.).
Well, most of that stuff was old-fashioned horror. It's the basis of what the comic features that set him off. Hell, he even describes what happens and it's more outlandish and crazy than the old fashioned style of horror and sci-fi that's shown in his son's bedroom. Hell, it's parallel to the critical reaction parents and focus groups had with E.C.'s comics like Tales from the Crypt.
Brandon Tenold recently reviewed this and he reminded me exactly why I liked this move. The effects are good for the 80s, it has some silly moments while still being scary, and it's basically a Tales from the Crypt movie.
glad to see other people who had serious beef with the dad. my step dad was exactly like this too, worse even. I was actually in a similar situation like this when I was 14, where he threw a conniption fit because my mom bought me a horror game, ranting and raving it to be "Devil trash" and I was like, "mother fucker I've seen your Internet search history and your "secret file". you like watching bitches take it up the ass you got NO ROOM to talk!"
This film is something special. First horror I ever watched. Still think the soundtrack is one of the best in horror cause it's so damn creepy and atmospheric. I have got a slight fear of cockroaches though thanks to this film!!.
it took me forever to figure out what the kid was saying, '' no it wasn't like that, you said for me to get your cuff links!! it was on sunday!!'' cant understand him lol
The father accused him of being a snoop after he mentioned his porno mags in his sock drawer but the boy only found them after his father sent him off to fetch his cufflinks".
+Jo Lu Actually if we think of the movie as an illustration of what's going on in real life, if the kid's father wasn't such a jerk the boy wouldn't have interest in reading "the comic book". Now, the boy's father + reading "the comic book" + the boy's interest in dark things as a try to escape from what's going on around him, that's what would create one really deadly combination...
This is what I imagine when a horror story is from America, its so dark, disturbing and eerie, its so classic. I was so traumatized as a kid watching this movie, even as an adult is still gives me the creeps. They don't make horror movies like this anymore. Fantastic
This theme is one of the first ones I taught myself on the piano. The other one is the piano piece playing when Wilma is reading the note Henry lured her to Amberson Hall with.
Even though the early 1980s had many people fear the Cold War wasn't going to end well. The Latin American debt crisis. President Reagan wanted more nuclear missiles in Europe, envisioned the Star Wars defense system and the "Evil Empire" speech reflected the "Red Scare" at a time "the Bomb" was still making everybody nervous. The Cold War, Berlin Wall and Apartheid did fall, but only near the end of the decade. Unemployment and economic crisis were a huge problem in many Western countries in the early years of the decade and the high speculation led to a bubble which fatigued in 1987 and burst in 1989. AIDS caused many victims because governments were slow to inform the general public on this disease as most people at first dismissed as just a problem for blacks, gays and drug users. TV shows and movies were extremely escapist and PCs and video games were prohibitively expensive. MTV did bring music videos on TV, but the downside was that how a pop star looked and danced became more important than the music, which was now created by computers, becoming increasingly sappy and repetitive as samples became the norm, becoming a disadvantage for those who still wanted to use actual instruments, chords and tunes. Metal and rap were seen as crime-mongering and even "satanic" as a whole. Also drugs went artificial during this time, turning Florida into a Crapsaccharine World. The nuclear power plant explosion in Chernobyl caused another major fear among people about the dangers of nuclear power.
Such a great intro. All three of the actors are great( especially the son who was Stephen Kings son) and the Creep puppet actually made me kinda scared of the window in my room. I hope that puppet is somewhere is good condition
One thing I wanna say is, due to the lifestyle of the 1950s, I like how the intro to this movie actually shows how ridiculous parents were reacting to their kids just being kids
Proud to say that this was the 3rd movie that I ever saw at the movies. First Empire Strikes Back, then E. T., and then Creepshow. Top 10v horror movie of the 80s, if not all-time. The only other horro-anthology in its league was Tales From the Darkside almost a decade later. They don't make 'em like this anymore. The DVD opens like this; no title screens or ads, just the suburban house and the keyboard.
This was the first horror movie I watched when I was a child. My dad had it for VHS (that'll tell you how old I am, lol), along with the sequel. I'd watch them all the time. M favorite tales were Father's Day and the Crate.
Tom Atkins is awesome as Billy's father. Tom Atkins is awesome in a lot of films including the awesome 1980 horror film "The Fog", the awesome 1981 film "Escape From New York". He was awesome as Dr. Dan Challis in the awesome 1982 horror movie "Halloween III: Season of the Witch", loved his role in the awesome 1986 sci-fi horror film "Night of the Creeps". So cool he starred in the awesome 1987 movie "Lethal Weapon" as Michael Hunsaker.
i ust got j.harrison's vinyl also and am getting a new vinyl player tomorrow! woo-hoo! this opening scene is what i've always had to deal with from my sisters and my brother in laws to the people i have to deal with today if you don't like it don't watch it!
I love Creepshow! There is now a series based on the 1982 classic with new, spine chilling tales! The season 2 episode, " The Model Kid" reminds me a lot of the opening and ending credits of the movie!
Love this movie. Tim Burton, if you're reading this, stop doing Disney, and get back to what you're good at and adapt this movie, and cast me it in it as Ted Danson's role and Leonardo DiCaprio as Leslie Nielsen's role. :)
