Well the maggots probably helped the cow from going septic. It was until humans could intervene and provide the care needed for the cow

A vet I worked for years ago made up him own mix to wash maggot-infested wounds. Worked a charm always.

The fact that you got down to live tissue might be a good sign that you can clear up the toe necrosis. Fingers crossed anyway. That's some very bad stuff.

Should have kept that block back over the heel as much as possible. I've found with toe fractures their tendons are pulled out and if you don't set the block back they tend to rock back on it.

Amazing me how those things can get intrude the foot. I just picture the always standing on it so how does it work its way in at the bottom.

It depends on what type of fly the maggots are the larvae for.

Fly strike maggots don’t… they will burrow into living tissue 🤮

Some maggots do while some don't. Depends on the species of fly.

0:27 ""Lesion"" seems a little vague to me as it can reffer to a number of different problems... I say it looks like "Toe Necrosis" to be specific... I seriously hope I'm wrong.

2:40 Dammit, I was seriously hoping that this was one of those videos where I saw a cavity in the cows hoof capsule and mistook it for toe necrosis when it was actually something else (yes I have made that mistake before)... Sometimes I just hate it when I'm right...

You wash the hoof first. I don’t understand why other trimmers want to hit a manure covered hoof with an 8000 rpms spinning disc

If you watch the hoof gp, he explains why hooves are not washed off first during trims.

@@kennyferrick1240yes they explain it, and it goes against all the infectious disease control trainings I have had to take at a hospital. If I have to wash my hands after touching a keyboard, turning a door handle, or other common item, to stop the spread of something, they can soak the foot before the grind away.

@@kathyglass2922 when it is on a farm practices are different than that from a hospital. A farm will be a dirty environment no matter how much or how well you clean. And soaking the feet probably isn't wise in the case of cows as they'd be on the move. The longer a cow waits such as in the band it can cause them more harm than good hence the grinders and swift knife work. And soaking the feet wouldn't get rid of everything. And they'd need to contain many many cows to get their feet soaked, and I'm talking more than 50 of them needing their hooves being done as quickly as possible to avoid stress. There's a lot of different things to know and more than what I know. I live on a farm myself and knows cleanliness is no longer an option the moment you're working outside.... Sure, with indoor pets you can be definitely have cleanliness, but outside it's just goodbye.

EWEWEWEWEWEWEWEWEWEWEWEW I will watch a toe necrosis video with no issues, abscesses being lanced and drained, and all sorts of other things, but the second maggots show up 🤮
