That’s cool. When my kids were little, they used to have a name for the big old toad that hung out by our door (under the outdoor light). They called him Grampa Toad 🙂 Those Luna Moths are incredible, and beautiful. You’ve also got some beautiful butterflies 🦋. That big black beetle was bookin it 🙂. Thank you for sharing, and have a blessed day!

Thanks Kat! That's a legendary toad indeed to have earned a name from the kids, haha. I love the variety of butterfly types I'm seeing here. It's been a priority of mine to spread seed of native wildflowers and host plants along with the food crops to hopefully attract even more. The luna moth stopping in my cabin for awhile the other night was a real treat to me.

@@TheBackwoodsHermit Oh yes, they love the wildflowers and that’s nice of you to spread the wildflower seeds. Highly beneficial 🦋 Enjoy your day!

Thank you, Ernie. I imagine your place has all kinds of fascinating insects as well. I'm jealous of your flying squirrels from your recent video. Those are so cool.

Cool! Thanks for sharing. Except the centipede, don’t like them. ❤️😊

I don't like them much either, but that type I see the most of here is very slow moving and sluggish. Doesn't bother me as much as the fast ones :shudder:

Wow! Your place is really "hopping," lol. Gorgeous butterflies! So nice to see a video just about nature and what's going on. 🧡

I'm really glad you enjoyed it. Hop-fully I'll be able to continue catching more critters on cam and can release a video like this every few months. Really want some footage of our armadillos, but they only come around at night and are good about sneaking around in the forest where they're hard to record.

Hey steve :) hope you are doing well. its facinating how many insects surround us if we look for them. it must be very diferent compared to the city. Have you encountered other creatures as well? Deer or coyotes for example? And what i am really curious about is how you setteled in since you moved to your property. i mean we saw a lot of updates and projects. Could you give us a summery of the past months? what you have been up to what projects where finished and which are yet to come ? How you changed or your point of view about living that lifestyle? are there things you anticipated differently? Stay safe mate! :)

I'm doing very well. Hope you are too! Most people in populated areas, unfortunately, put out pesticides and herbicides like Roundup or Weed'N'Feed in their yards. This basically makes their yards a completely toxic environment where none of these creatures can survive. It can't be very safe for their children and pets to be playing out there in that stuff either. I vow to avoid poisoning my environment here as much as reasonably achievable. I have lots of deer, coyotes and armadillos running around out here, but they're nearly impossible to film because of how forested it is here. The coyotes and armadillos are extra hard because they only really come out at night and are good at staying hidden beyond the treeline. I'm determined to get some armadillo footage, though. I really like them. The rest of your questions are too much to answer in the comments here, so I took a screenshot of them and will answer them as best I can in a video when I have time. Those are really good questions that I'll have to think a little on how to answer. Thank you for the video idea and take care, man.

Thank you. I've always been used to slow moving snakes, so the handful of times I've encountered this one, it has been impressive.

That was lovely to watch we don't take enough time to notice the smaller things in life, you have a lovely place there to notice life's finer details. - Still not sure about the snake though!

Thank you. Some critters are harder to appreciate than others, but I haven't had any rodents get into my stuff yet, so that is why I'm happy to have that snake around. That type will also eat other snakes, including the poisonous ones. If he's keeping away the ones that are dangerous then I can certainly appreciate that.

I have an old spa pool in dug into my yard where the frogs return to breed, right outside my bedroom window, I enjoy the sounds and seeing the cycle each year.

That's so cool. I like that they eat lots of bugs as well. Helps with mosquito control.

I wonder if those tadpoles eat mosquito eggs, the deadliest creature on earth.

Oh yeah, video doesn't do it justice how big the lunas really are. Doesn't surprise me it felt like a bat landing on you. I felt honored having him come visit inside my cabin for awhile.
