This is a performance of Enrique Crespo's Improvisation No. 1 for Trombone. It was recorded at Boston Symphony Hall on March 16, 2020. Special thanks to Royer Labs and Whiskey Lane Productions - James Donahue, lead audio engineer, Francisco Gonzalez Navarro, assistant audio engineer. You are an inspiration Toby! I have tried to memorize more of what I play because of you. I have a new appreciation of the Rochut etudes when played from memory. I never realized how much just reading got in the way.

I VIVIDLY remember playing in band with Toby in the early 90s. He was LIGHT YEARS ahead of all of us. (We were a fairly decorated band, as well) 🏅

Magnificent performance Toby! Crespo was Uruguayan but worked in Germany, founding the German Brass Ensemble. "Improvisación No. 1" was played last Sunday 4-26th, 2024 by Pablo Fenoglio, soloist at the Orquesta Estable del Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires, after Nino Rota´s Concerto for Trombone and Orquestra.

I’ve been practicing this exact piece for over a month now and the middle section has me questioning my choices 💀 but I’m willing to keep practicing this because I want to play this so bad. Love from a Swedish trombonist

I think it's useful to remember that this was uploaded during the pandemic. There have been a lot of mental health issues since then. These are just 9 of them crying out for help. Don't condemn them. Hug them.

Toby you are great....... My only problem is with Crespo piece, which I consider one of the most useless ugly and senseless compositions ever wrote... You give it some sense... Great, as always...
