I just watched your beautiful video it brought back memories,my mother was from Crete from a village near Heraklio. Cretans want to treat you, want to feed you, want to take care of you and the minute you leave Crete you want to go back! It is a mythic place a sanctuary for me. May all your journeys be beautiful, keep on traveling!
It was time for me to rewatch your videos on your adventures in Greece 🇬🇷.. per usual my granddaughter who is 18 months has to dance during all your music inserts! She especially loved the Lemonade song! She has been watching your videos with me since she was born and we have a blast watching them together! Thank you for the amazing videos and the special memories I am sharing with my granddaughter!
Such an incredibly sweet message. We both have huge smiles on our faces. We are so happy you guys are enjoying our videos. Many blessings. John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
You gotta admit that Greek people and their hospitality are part of Greece's charm. Great vlog. Keep up the good work! By the way, metochi is definitely a Greek word coming straight from ancient Greek almost unchanged.
Wow! I had no idea Crete is so beautiful. What a cool dining experience. The owner is very proud of his food and wanted to share his enthusiasm with you.
Yes it was! Crete was wonderful. We had no idea there would be snow capped mountains there in April. That restaurant is one of our top dining experiences in the world! Happy journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
The restaurant is farm to table, no tomatoes because they were out of season. That was not simply escargot, that was 'cholious boubouristous' a classic cretan dish. It all looked fabulous. I have to look on a map to figure out the road you had to turn onto. I'm Greek and was thinking "what? " as soon as I heard it.
Wow! How attentive was that server! Or was it the manager? He was amazing! It was the simplicity of it all for me. No fuss, just delicious food. Love it!
Thanks. He was the owner and he exuded joy in every way. He also did the greeting, serving, entertaining, etc He was quite a wonderful character! And the food was delicious 😋 Thanks for following along. John and Bev
This was a very, very very very very good vlog, your best yet! We are still laughing 30 mins after watching the scene when Stelios feed John 🤣 😂 😆 😄. Fantastic job you two.
Thanks so much. That means a lot coming from you guys. Stelios is a character and feeding me 🐌🐌🐌 no less.🤣. We had such a great time on Crete. John and Bev
you mentioned that you left Chania. I wish you had shown more of it. i spent 2 weeks in Chania circa 2000 and loved that little town. that curved marina with the lighthouse on one end and surrounding streets so picturesque!
You have a new subscriber! I love the content! I felt like I was at the table with you eating at the slow cooking restaurant. Also nice that you told us the price of the meal plus tip, so that we know how to budget!
Thanks so much for the kind words. They certainly put a smile on our faces 😊😊. We will be visiting 22 countries this year, so hopefully we can give you some more Europe ideas! Thanks again, John and Bev
Thanks so much. It is a lot of work but we are just enjoying the journey, meeting new people and trying new things. Thanks for following along! John and Bev
hello from crete. i stubbled across your video and seen that you went to stelios for your food..... BRAVO! we live in neo chorio and are friends with his family. they are a perfect example of true cretan hospitality. dont know if he told you but everything he serves is from their family farm. we went up to pick the grapes with them (even higher in the mountains) and crushed them in the house just behind you on camera. theres a saying here that you never visit crete just once and i hope that you will uphold this tradition lol. best wishes from kriti
Thanks so much and we will definitely be back to Crete. Stelios and his restaurant were amazing. Hope you can follow along on our journey and feel free to share the video with your friends in Greece. We will let you know when we return to your amazing island!!! John and Bev
@@RetirementTravelers will do. youre welcome for the comment lol, too many peoples just come and go to the tourist places for food. yes its nice but really happy you made the effort to try the real thing. safe travels both and look forward to your next video (and maybe kriti again lol) peace
Awesome dining experience. You two are so adventurous. I've never had goat, not sure I would be such a culinary risk taker. lol. Enjoying following along on your travels.
Thanks. We did love that place and you are so right about how it makes traveling amazing. Thanks for following along and hope things are going well at the lodge. John and Bev
Wow, what an amazing day! Try saying that road name 3 times fast...or even once slow, lol. I know I couldn't! That restaurant owner knows how to treat his guests - and for a price that couldn't be beat.
Your comment made us go back and watch that clip again. It was a WOW meal. One of our best travel memories! Thanks for commenting! John & Bev www.retirementtravelers.com

Just to let you know…there’s pink highways in Nova Scotia’s Cape Breton! If you like pink come see! Also, we’ve been following all of your videos, and we are heading to Crete in a few days via Albania. Can’t wait! If you come to Nova Scotia let us know and you can stay with us (if in fact, we’re home)! Hahaha
Thanks for the nice offer. We've never been to Nova Scotia, but hope to someday. Go eat at Ntounias Tavern if you are near Chania, Crete. Safe travels and many blessings, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
Thanks. Greece was amazing! If you go to Crete, be sure to visit this restaurant. Definitely not blue zone, but yummy 😋. Our favorite surprise place in Greece was Folegandros. Check out the video. It was so cool. Safe travels, John and Bev
Why did you do such a short stay in the Netherlands and then fly all the way to Greece without visiting any places along the way? I think I already asked you that somewhere else, but I miss replies sometime. So please be patient with me and tell me again 😂
Anything for you!! Giethoorn was added as a layover for just a few days because we flew into Amsterdam. The plan was always Southern Europe and the Balkans for this trip. We will spend 3,weeks in Prague, Vienna and Budapest in the fall. John and Bev
@@RetirementTravelers My pleasure. Many words used in modern Greek today are what is termed in linguistics 'reborrowings'. That means the original word was adopted by another culture and then returns to its original source country. This is the case with the word Metochi. Metochi can be rendered as 'share' or 'piece'. In the Middle Ages, during the reign of the Eastern Roman Empire (aka, wrongly identified as Byzantine Empire in common parlance) which was basically all of the Greek peninsula and the islands, including Crete, which would change hands frequently, the Eastern Orthodox Church, as well as parts of Asia Minor (modern Turkey) the official religion of the Empire, had plots attached to the churches or buildings called Metochi or pieces-plots. Once the Ottomans conquered the Eastern Roman Empire they basically adopted the term which eventually came back to Greece, which it was originally derived from. Metochi is just one word, there are plenty of others. I hope you enjoyed your stay in Crete. God bless you
It is called Ntounias tavern. It is on the road between Theriso and Keramia. Google maps says: Keramion, Nerokourus 731 00, Greece Hope this helps, John and Bev
The restaurant is up in the mountains about an hour south of Chania. It is between the towns of Drakona and Theriso. Fabulous experience. Happy journeys, John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
There actually was a man selling the dolls. We guess this was their unique method of displaying their things. As full-time travelers with limited ability to carry things, we usually don’t buy much!! John and Bev
