I'm performing Little Mermaid this summer so this is soooo helpful! Always great to watch an example and get a feel for the characters! Side note: Ursula and Ariel ate it up
The eels look more like swamp monsters in this version than they do eels. I don't see them as villains in this version, I see them as young, naive kid swamp monsters who are only with Ursula to be taken care of by her because they had no one else to do it. In other words, they were just homeless kids who got mixed up with the wrong person. They were only doing Ursula's bidding. Once she was gone, they were all good. I believe that because they were present at Ariel and Eric's wedding, and no one said anything. That's cause they weren't bad, they were just in the company of a bad person. It happens.
