Hi Christine. Fellow sound technon land for now here. This relates alot to me and my life for the past 8 years. I spent every Christmas day as a sound tech in a hotel running sound in 3 venues/restaurant, lot of running, checking, fixing things butnyou know what ? I loved it, I was with my colleagues, musicians and staff and we all had a great time together even if away from the family. And indeed keeping busy during such days is honestly the best way to spend the day away from home. Hope you are well ! Happy new year 🎉
I find the same. While I haven't worked a Christmas Day in many years, I have worked over New Year a few times. I find the team spirit is what carries me through. This year, I was working from the end of November until Mid-December doing a run of Christmas Parties, and the third week of December I was de-rigging a couple of party locations. If I did what I would call a normal job, all I think I would have wanted to do was go home, and would have been dwelling on it. While I'm not full-time, I do love what I do, to the point where I take holiday from the day job to do it.
