Even within the astronaut corps, they were chosen because they are such great candidates. Koch has more logged time in space and spacewalking than most, and Wiseman had similar experience. Victor Glover was one of two astronauts to fly on Crew-demo 2 in 2020, and he was an Air Force test pilot before that. Jeremy Hansen has not been to space before, so this will be his first spaceflight. He had experience in the Canadian Air Force prior to entering the CSA as an astronaut.

People who say there should be no travel to the Moon or anywhere else up there in space because of problems on Earth have a point and I respect that but these problems would still exist with or without a space programme. Humanity has always had problems ever since it came into being and always will. It would be better for the nay sayers to spaceflight to say they are against the very concept and idea of spaceflight, just like I am sure people were against the invention of the wheel. I am sorry but while I defend their right to express their belief, I do not have any respect for the Moon Conspiracy hoax theorists and believers who obviously have no idea of science at all and will, despite all the overwhelming evidence, persist in their belief and no amount of talking to them will dissuade them of that belief. I am in fact surprised America can still send astronauts into orbit, let alone the Moon, a country which has so many people believing that Americans and others never went into space at all. If spaceflight does continue, it will be dominated by the China, a country whose government will not allow any space naysayers to express their opinions on this and other things at all. And certainly it will not not allow any Moon hoax theorists to voice their belief in any way at all. It looks as if the US will get weaker and weaker, get ever more divided and a country whose problems will get worse and worse. China will simply get stronger and stronger and I would not be surprised if the next crew on the Moon is Chinese and not American. Especially as the American human landing system, the Starship, has not even flown into orbit yet, let alone the Moon, and will require a lot of test flights to prove it is safe to carry people. Therefore any US landing on the Moon will not take place in 2025, I am almost certain of that. It would more likely take place in the 2030s when the Chinese may already have landed there. It may never happen at all, given the deteriorating economic, political and social situation in the States, where there are huge problems like rampant gun violence in which mass shootings (where 2 or more people are killed and more wounded) seem to be taking place, not just monthly, not Judy weekly, but daily.
@masseffect8294
@masseffect8294 Год назад
I couldn't agree with u more the average American only spends 6 cence a year of their taxes on the space programme, but they act like they are spending hundreds of dollars from their taxes, the amount NASA is able to achieve with its comparatively small budget is incredible but needs to be increased for both Artemis and Mars to be achieved. My mum is a moon landing denier and it honestly just showcases the ignorance and lack of knowledge the majority of these people have about the moon landing, she didn't even know there were any missions beyond 11😮‍💨. Even if the space program was cancelled that extra 20 billion won't do much it will more than likely just go to funding more war machines in the military, I work in the defence sector, but even I can admit it is severely overfunded. The F16 program alone constitutes about 80% of NASA annual budget. How about we go after the corrupt politicians and greedy business practices instead of our presence in space which has brought countless great benefits to the world.

" a country which has so many people believing that Americans and others never went into space at all." Citation needed. "So many"? A few fringe nuts that get extra attention for acting like fools isn't a statistically significant number. And the problems we have on Earth very much CAN be made worse with space travel. Where do these things launch from? Unpopulated areas, protected natural areas or areas that SHOULD be protected from the damage of rocket launches. What are they fueled with? Is that renewable and infinite? I think not. Super rich space tourists will happily burn the planet down so long as they can go off somewhere else or afford to survive. These kinds of missions, at least, matter but I don't think we can just defend space travel anymore without specifying what kind and for what. You seem really pessimistic, btw. Not sure what your point is.

AS a child and young man I was so excited about the space race. I was glued to my TV set following, Mercury, Gemini and of course Apollo missions. But today as a man approaching his 70's the thrill is gone. My values have changed. What people said during the sixties about it being a waste of money and we have so many problems on earth that need to be addressed is so true. Hearing statements like it's for the good of mankind and it will bring mankind together because astronauts can work together in space is nothing but crap. If we can't get along on the good old planet earth what makes us think by sending some one to outer space going to bring about that change. With all the religions and philosophies that encourage man to be good to his fellow man and we still fall short of loving our neighbor , how is sending some one into space going to bring about that change? And if the earth is suppose to be a paradise then why go out there? And some day when a planet is found that will be habitable for man it's not going to be the janitor or the Maytag repairman that's going to go. No,. It's going to be the rich and powerful and the rest of us will be left behind on a dying planet. The whole thing is nothing more than the quest for power , money and making someone rich. Let's focus on making our world better by taking care of our planet ,caring for the poor and sick and loving our neighbor. You can keep space and all its emptiness. Our planet is beautiful let's work together to keep it that way.

Our planet is unfortunately going to be, to some degree, destroyed this century. Going to space improves life on Earth. If we halted all space missions, say goodbye to satellites, GPS, and so many other technologies. Going to space requires a LOT of innovation which leads to spin-off technologies like advanced medical imaging and water purification. NASA is now a part of the economy and we can't just halt everything. Plus, what's going to happen if we love our neighbor? Really, there's nothing exciting in that. And who knows, maybe in 100 years people will look at this archived comment from Mars and shake their heads. ChatGPT explains it better than me: Regarding the idea that space exploration is only for the rich and powerful, it's worth noting that space agencies like NASA have a long history of recruiting astronauts from diverse backgrounds and providing opportunities for people from all walks of life to participate in space research and exploration. Furthermore, many countries around the world have active space programs, including developing nations that are investing in their own space capabilities. Ultimately, it's a matter of balancing priorities and resources. It's possible to focus on addressing issues here on Earth while still pursuing exploration and innovation in space. Both can have important benefits for humanity, and it's up to society to decide how to allocate resources and prioritize goals.

What a dumb fucking comment. You know how little we spend on space exploration? Barely anything. We can do more than one thing at once. We can better mankind through space exploration and spend money on the people. Limiting ourselves to one thing is incredibly unnecessary.

@@llamallamamoi1417 it’s actually a very close minded comment. Space exploration and our discoveries have helped all of humanity, from simple things like better food refrigeration and microwaves, to MRI scans and advanced climate research technology. Space PUSHES our boundaries of understanding CONSTANTLY, allowing us to apply our knowledge to our home planet to improve it. Fucking, we didn’t even know the processes causing our own planet’s climate change until we studied Venus’s atmosphere!!! Space is IMPORTANT FOR ALL, it’s not a fucking business trip destination. It is the final frontier, ripe with knowledge for all of humanity.

even if you disregard the desire for exploration, the technologies that nasa develops give out much more money than we put it also, considerably more money goes to the space force (created in 2017ish) than nasa (created in 1958), and the space force hasnt even done anything big if we stopped funding nasa, we would get back a very small percentage of our taxes
