Class 20s 37s 47s are top I love them I remember them in the late 80s when I used to go round tinsley Sheffield and bescot in Birmingham happy memories of these locos.

In my youth you'd never see Crewe station with all roads empty as you can see in the video. There was always something in the bay platforms and mail trains galore. Sad to see it so quiet nowadays.

Yeah Crewe used to be the heartbeat of the trainspotting world in England but sadly those days are well and truely over but never the less this video showed that there was still plenty of interesting catches to get!!

@@trainsurfers Your video was certainly enjoyable. I was born in Crewe within a mile of the station. I was the first in my family in generations that didn't work for the railways. I've been in Australia for over 30 years, but still always manage a trip to Crewe during my UK visits. My, how it has declined over the decades. I think we manufacture more railway stock over here than the UK does nowadays.

I walked up there got pics and even got an air ambulance which had landed in adjoining field. Didn't see much freight so going to do Stafford later this month

+Karen Gillett Good choice with Stafford, awesome for freight...you'll have an exciting day there. Were going Crewe in the next couple of weeks as RHTT season is nearly upon us again.

3:23 What a happy sounding horn on that beautiful 47 790 'Northern Belle' Pullman train !! I would love to travel on that. I mostly bemoan trains - this one should be beatified !

Class 47's & 57's a low frequency horns!! You can travel on the Northern Belle as it's a yearly ran railtour service.

I used to do spotting at Crewe back in the 70s and it was the absolute mecca...... I've recently taken train spotting back up again..... Would you say that Crewe would still be an ideal place for me to go please? Your answers would be greatly appreciated.... Thank you so much....

I wonder how many miles some of them 37's have on the clock?

How sad to have a Loco at each end, when there should still be a Station Pilot at terminus Stations to "tail" trains to return.
@Scy
@Scy 8 лет назад
Loco at each end also helps acceleration and reaching higher speeds, which is good stuff when you're trying to keep a schedule.
@interestingrailwaysuk5703
@interestingrailwaysuk5703 6 лет назад
Agreed. Too locos means more weight and more fuel being burnt = waste of money! :)
@RightWing1
@RightWing1 8 лет назад
Why is so much double headed these days, even with just a few wagons, or coaches? Also why is there so many trains with locos at both ends?
@trainsurfers
@trainsurfers 6 лет назад
It's a lot easier to have locos at both ends that way the driver doesn't have to find a turning point for the train and it helps with speed as well. They double head a lot of movements because if 1 loco fails then they always have a back up loco.

Absolutely essential for DRS when they are hauling the nuclear flasks. Don't want _that_ stuck in the middle of nowhere.

Bloody hell that's a long time ago. Do you have any footage of Crewe back then by any chance, would love to see that if you did.
@radders1

you will probably find the 80's and 90's were easily the best. you are 25 years too late
@trainsurfers
@trainsurfers 4 года назад
Nothing like stating the obvious, it was obviously better back in the 80/90's as 37's, 47's, 33's, 20's etc were on nearly every movement as 66's, 68's, 70's etc weren't even designs on someone's paper.

Now have a stand, but back then we'd gone straight from work and don't carry a tripod around.

All that jungly weed-growth wouldn't have been tolerated in BR days, before the system was handed to the profiteers.
