When I was a pre teen I had 25 to life on ps2 with the big block on back of the system to go online and use a created character online made a clan we reached top 3 in world “TOU” then got hacked by a clan member who guessed my password & he deleted my account 😂😂 good times but the game was filled with people cheating & using game sharks… man the memories
@@Vynsent yeah man online was full of people crab walking auto aim it really killed the game in my opinion but I have some great gaming memories from it… long live the game stark lol
“THUGGED OUT UNIT” Haha I remember y’all. I was pre teen also my username on there was XxEAGLExX I made it to top 50 as a player few times I had my own clan it was called bullet burnas but like the highest I ever got the clan was in the 80-100s nothing lower tho. Yeah they use to have hella cheaters they made patches but people use to make custom codes.
I remember owning a gameshark, then had the brilliant audacity of turning it in as if it was any other rental device. Man I wish I had the foresight to know how rare those kinda were and kept it.
I think GTA has just dominated it so much, to the point that everyone else gave up lol. Saints Row had a great thing going for awhile, until they started going off the rails xD
@@Vynsentit's not really that everyone gave up, it's just that gta is stupidly popular. Take for example the mafia franchise, it's still going yet it ain't so well known. And funny enough, take two has rights to both of them so it's obvious gta is their favorite child. Although, I have to admit, it's far more impressive what mafia is able to pull off considering the pretty low budget. I believe that it could be far more popular but take two is "supressing" it because they still want gta online to be their main source of income.
@@Vynsentsaints row really did go off the rails sadly. It sucks because the first 2 games were soo good! Now the name is tarnished.. a bit like halo now days
I was so hyped for 25 to life, I watched all the trailers and everything leading up to its release. I don't know if you covered in the video, but it's the first thing that came to mind for me.
Man you really put a well developed video together here. The Getaway and especially Black Monday are favorites of mine to this day. Thanks for that taste of nostalgia
I sometimes feel nostalgic over this era of gaming. GTA is great and all but is a very cartoony approach to the genre and there's nothing else right now that tries to get deeper than that.
I rented the NES version from a video store owned by one of the guys that was tied to Dark Horse comics in the beginning. I keep thinking he was one of the founders, but there's been way too much cannabis use during the 90s to remember. When he was clearing out the NES games, he gave my friend and I 15 games each as he liked talking comics and music with us.
Holy shit man I just stumbled across this channel. Easily thought this was ATLEAST a 50k sub channel if not more. Didn’t realize you were just under 6k until the end. Instant sub. Look forward to more from you.
It's so insane that nobody even attempts to compete against GTA in modern day. Like the genre really isn't that complex (open-world heist & car game - and multiplayer if we're lucky), yet I can recall exactly 0 games that try this, within recent years.
Hooooly crap I never expected to hear anyone talk about 25 to Life or Narc again in my life, let alone in the same video. What a trip back to some games of my youth!
I still have a bit of promo material that came in a PS Magazine around the time Getaway came out called Learn to speak Getaway: A to Z Guidebook. Sort of a mock travel brochure/booklet that contains info about locations in the game (with a map) , vehicles that were available to the player, and side activities (I think... I dont recall stuff like darts or bareknuckle boxing available in the game). It also had a bunch of 'ard as nails crook phrases with translation. Some of my faves were: Mop your chevy up; you're getting claret all over the boot of my car (Your face is bleeding all over my car trunk) Get your laughin' gear 'round that (Here's your drink) Anymore gyp and you'll be drinkin' a petrol shandy (Stop annoying me or I'll force gasoline down your throat) I'm gonna use your bollocks for snooker balls (I intend to use your gonads for sporting apparatus) Anyways good video dude, subbed
Maaaan 25 that game was hella infuriating sometimes My character would die alot Especially at the apartment mission then at the bank it was tough sometimes but did enjoy it big time, certainly games and movies from that era glorified the gangsta culture, man there is this game i forgot the name of where u would be racing around while getting shot at and u could also shoot too while being able to change the car and go through different maps man if u could do a vid on that game would be pretty cool if u know the name of, thx for this vid i totally enjoyed it
@@Vynsent Ahaha I just gotta keep a positive mindset. I saw your first video posted on this channel which was about life and that’s what I’m going through right now
your videos take me back to when I used to come home from school and immediately boot up my ps2 to play some metal gear solid 2, wondering if snake would ever come back as a playable character after the Tanker incident.
The Getaway was fantastic, it was a little hard to play as a kid. But I still feel like it has that style with the grit and realism of a dark bbc drama, that hasn’t really been recreated since.
@@game0wlI dunno, 2004 had Game Informer feature the Lincoln Navigator 24/7, customized by none other than West Coast Customs of Pimp My Ride. It's sad that I still remember the purple ostrich skin on the wheels and champagne cooler in the back seat
Niko Bellic is the most down to earth GTA character that feels remorseful for the people he’s killed and is trying to survive the horrible life he’s in where nobody is hiring but criminals. When he comes to America he finally got a break when Roman helps Nico by giving him a Taxi Job but not everything is what it seems because Roman is a Gambler who owes Money to Criminal getting Nico further into the Criminal Lifestyle to help Roman out of his Gambling problems. When Nico thought it was all over someone gets killed and Niko finishes unfinished business finally Nico can go legit.
@@evandenney8335 Wrong. GTA always sucked till GTA 4 saved the franchise. GTA 5 and GTA 6 is destroying GTA because Rockstar doesn’t care about making games anymore they are only interested in cash cowing GTA Online is why so many years has passed and GTA 6 is still not out. GTA 6 is only being made to cash cow GTA online even more. That’s why Bully 2 never became a reality.
I remember Snoop being an unlockable character in True Crime: Streets of LA, that was my go to GTA clone, an extremely detailed LA with a decent story and an emphasis on leveling up and hand to hand combat.
@@Vynsent I can only hope so, the True Crime games gave us Sleeping Dogs. There’s The Getaway 2, and my favorite trash crime game Roadkill (some kind of record for cussing).
I owned all the GTA’s and I rented all these games. That in itself sums them up. Me and every other kid just wanted more GTA, these games didn’t meet the standards. Although Getaway was a fun game
I still have a memory from back in around 2007 or 2008 where i was with my friends at night hanging out and one of them was playing Scarface. I think he was at the end of the game. For sone reason i never forgot that night
That’s awesome, love memories like that 🥲 Also that game is super underrated! I plan on making a part 2 to this video, will probably include it in the next one 😁
Fear and Respect was supposed to come out in 2006. The same year Saints Row came out, which also had a gangsta setting and turf war mechanics. I doubt F&R would be able to surpass SR.
Lowkey F&R could’ve been SR in retrospect. The way everything was setup in the first scene on SR Easily could’ve been changed with a snoop skin, a Cadillac, and a Long Beach, La, Compton, or Watts backdrop.
Can u make another one of these?? Linear third person crime shooter always interest me. But sadly i Haven't found a lot of these Kane & lynch series, made man 2006, 50 cent games, the darkness 1 (second one feels too much demon stuff) I think ps2 has more games like these.
@@Vynsent Destroy All Humans 2 was also brilliant fun fact phil morris who played jackie chiles in sienfeld voices characters in DAH2 and SR2 and he was asked to put on his chiles accent and characteristics for his characters in game he was hillarious as the San Francisco hippies and Chicago police
@@Vynsentgreat video man, loved the heartbreak creeping back from the reminder of fear and respect haha if you make a part 2, i’ve got a few titles you can cover like 187 ride or die, crime life gang wars along with 50 cent bulletproof and possibly marc ecko’s getting up. crazy how many crime games the 2000’s had
I remember Fear and Respect. Or at least, Game Informer's cover of it. Back then, Gamestop's loyalty card got you a year's subscription of Game Informer along with 10% off used games for 15 bucks. Which is an insanely good deal. You only needed to buy $150 worth of used games in a year for the card to pay for itself and get free magazines. I wonder if Midway's financial troubles were the reason they pulled the plug on this. PS2, Xbox, 360 and Ps3 versions of an open-world game, that must have been expensive. EA would do something similar with The GodFather, but that's EA with their massive pockets, being the largest 3rd party publisher of games at the time. With Midway eventually going out of business in 2010, the timeline almost fits with this game being cancelled in 2006.
I had that same loyalty card! Loved those magazines too, they were amazing 😁 But I’m sure it had to do with financial reasons forsure. They probably thought they wouldn’t be able to turn a profit unfortunately 🥲
I used to play Narc when it first came out with my one friend, we were probably like 12 or 13. The only thing i remember is taking people's drugs and keeping them and "I'm your mama, I'm your daddy, I'm that nigga in the alley, I'm your doctor when in need, want some coke? Have some weed" that song was like our favorite thing about the game😂😂😂😂 we used to get in trouble for singing all the time.
a lot of them were bad, but at least we had other options. skip ahead to the 2010s and onward, GTA scared everyone away from the genre. And we have nothing to hold us over while we wait decades for rockstar's next release.
That’s awesome! As much as I had complaints about some of its mechanics, I really enjoyed it too! I think I’ll be working on finishing it soon. Thank you very much for watching though, I’m glad you enjoyed! 😁
The set peice in Kane and Lynch 2 at the airport is totally HEAT inspired, the game is an underrated masterpiece and I don't use either of those words often if at all.
It's a shame that companies don't have the balls to make crime games like they used to. Nowadays it's all about politically correct open world games with generic RPG elements.
At 2:00 I was expecting him to say: “being the degenerate I was back in the day, I happen to have both a good amount of knowledge, and past experience at committing crime”
Fear and respect was simply too real and black for a game we all know especially as black people that the gaming industry don't wanna push our culture because It probably didn't fit the hard gangster stereotype like Carl Johnson did I mean we also never saw the sad story of cj besides the introduction of San andreas cj also lost his 10 year old brother we never saw more from that side we probably also should see the sad side and tragedy of fear and respect like the game was probably also filled with real drama from that environment.. And that Is something the gaming industry doesn't want to show you they don't even want cool cultureistic black characters all black people nowdays in games looking goofy ass hell with that dreaded sidecut and most of the black characters getting switched in favor of female black characters. They never wanna see black people winning in gaming.
Hopefully that will change in the future of gaming! More diverse and well rounded characters, but there’s still some great ones already! You got Sgt. Johnson from Halo, Balthazar in crackdown, Augustus Cole from Gears and of course Miles Morales! All great video game characters 😁
You completely forgot what is in my opinion the definitive crime game by Xatrix Entertainment aka Grey Matter Studios aka Treyarch: Kingpin: Life of Crime. Game was so controversial it was pulled from shelves after the horrific events of the Columbine massacre shootings in 1999.
I had surprisingly never heard of it until now! I’ll be making a part 3 for this series, so I put it on the list to be included. Thank you for the recommendation!
@@VynsentI have some crime game suggestions from the 2000's: Manhunt, Punisher, Ride OrDie and True Crime:New York City. And there's also movie licensed games like The Warriors, Godfather and Scarface.
Great video man! This brings me back to my Ps2 days playing Def Jam Fight for New York and 187 Ride or Die with my brother. And Narc actually sounds like a really interesting game. You definitely made me want to check it out and look for a copy 👍🏻
Ahhh, the good ole days 😁 I’m very glad that you enjoyed the video my friend! I definitely recommend giving it a play, I just picked up a copy of it for Xbox recently. It’s fun to play around in 🔥
Ps2 days where the best. Great video bro. Thank you for helping to preserve these forgotten gems. Even if they are kinda bad😅 they still great pieces of history that we need to remember and appreciate. Especially in this here Era of gaming.
You forgot to mention crime games that either hit or miss. Such as "Def Jam Icons", "Ride 187", "Driver Parrell Lines", "True Crime NY",, "Scarface The World Is Yours" & not to mention "The Getaways Black Monday", "Sleeping Dogs".....lastly what about "Crime Life"..... 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
