Seeing the first case and now knowing about how wild it got till today is kind of crazy. The police convicted Teina Pora at the time because his Auntie said he found a baseball bat so it must have been them, her and 3 others were basically paid $5000 each to testify against him and he was found guilty of rape and murder. He finally got the chance to appeal it in Londan where they found him not guilty and the NZ govt quashed his convections and issued a full govt apology and awarded him (after appealing the amount for inflation) $3,509,048. Malcolm Rewa was the real culprit and in 2019 was sentenced to life in prison for the murder and offending against 25 other women, his minimum parole period is 22 years and has tried to appeal twice unsuccessfully.
