The short back and forths between you two are always so heartwarming, it's nice to see a strong family bond these days. And as someone who lives in a disorganized home, it's often as simple as not being taught how to do basic chores and tasks by your family or other caregivers. It's taken me until my early 30s to learn the life skills and routines to keep my place looking okay. I'm not defensive over it anymore, but for me, that and chronic pain are the biggest impediments to me keeping my place up.

Full disclosure, I had already seen this, so I knew what the outcome was at the beginning. My sister lived in a different city from me and her daughter. In 2012 a long time neighbor called for a wellness check and she was found deceased. It was February in Aurora, CO and next to no heat, so decomp was slowed way down. He daughter got the death certificate, but I think she died of a heart attack, and she probably also had some prescription drugs in her because of constant pain. She was physically disabled, but smoked like a chimney. She had been diagnosed years ago with Borderline Personality Disorder and was constantly miserable. She was also a registered nurse. She had a heart attack in 2005 and told me numerous times if she thought she was having another heart attack she would not call 911. I suspect that is exactly what she did and any drugs that might have been in her body would have been incidental, I think. In February 1983, she found our father dead in his hot tub and his cause of death was drowning and manner was accidental. I have also seen a couple videos where a person who did yard cleanups for free called the police after smelling that distinctive smell. I am now 76 and I am glad my daughter checks on me frequently.

I took care of my parents, both with dementia with dad having Parkinson's dementia. He was paranoid and had violent outbursts, he attacked me one day and I was able to call my brothers, who had to restrain him which left bruises on him. After he passed, mom started to pick open sores on her arms, I tried everything to stop her but got looks from others taking her out. She even told a doctor that I punched her causing black eyes that in truth we caused by oral surgery. Even though she changed her story and I provided evidence of the surgery, I still had a file open with Adult Protective for 1 year as long as there was no further incidences. Also she was diabetic and had numerous falls, in the middle of the night.

My man has stage 4 lung CANCURE that's metastasized into his bone. He had a couple mini stokes and was very aggressive and violent towards me during two of his strokes confused and hallucinate and angry so angry screaming at me and my biggest fear was some bs of someone thinking I was abusing him as he fell a couple times and had done something to his eye kept rubbing it so hard it looked like a black eye. Thank God I kept open communication with the medical staff and once I finally got him to the hospital and realized he had stroke episodes it all made sense for his behavior changes. He's the kindest most non combative person I have been with for over three years and to see this loving good man turn so ugly and hurtful and violent was heartbreaking and scary for me especially being a survivor of severe domestic abuse from my past it was difficult to stomach. He doesn't remember hitting me on two of his episodes and that was difficult to process for him. We are better now and he's regulated on his meds for now the chemo road is a long painfully exhausting one that is necessary for his survival so it's a new day everyday and we take it with our hearts flowing with love and pray each day for another tomorrow. Grateful beyond anything else for the love and support and compassion that we have been given throughout this horrible sickness. CANCURE with love I send my love to all those who have lived the CANCURE life. May all be healed and loved because we all are enough and deserve nothing less then the best in each other for all others.

Feel sorry for anyone that has to face the horrible scenes they must encounter, especially when a body is a few days old. When I was a student nurse we went on the district where you went to peoples homes. The nurse who was in charge said to me to wear bicycle clips. I asked why, and she said because some houses we go to are crawling with fleas. She also said don't accept anything to eat or drink, and shake your coat as you go out. Put me off doing that job as a district nurse. I'm old now, and disabled, and don't have any help, and it frustrates me that I'm unable to keep my house like I used to. A lot of people who live in those spaces have depression due to the low income so I’m not shocked to see it. Drugs, depression, sometimes this is where people end up after divorce or foreclosure. The cops are being very tactful because this is the kind of community is going to notice someone not coming and going. Small space and many people, it’s scary for them too. Clutter was the norm, I grew up surrounded by dust and clutter so I also agree. Take pride in what you have even if it’s only a trailer in a park somewhere.

My mom is a hoarder, at one time she had 14 cats in her apartment. My brother lived with her and was very passive about the situation. He became more and more depressed and eventually it destroyed his health, one day he collapsed and she called me terrified about his situation. I rushed over and called 911, I was amazed at how respectful and kind the EMT's were. My brother and Mom resisted all the help I offered for years, finally my brother went into a nursing home and died after several years, my mother fell and broke her hip and she went into rehab for 4 months. I shut down her apt and moved her into a retirement apartment with one cat. She can't drive anymore so she can't go to the stores every day and buy sacks of stuff she will never use. I take her to the grocery store once a week and she buys $200.00 worth of groceries that mostly I end up throwing away. Plus EVERY week she buys another fingernail clipper. I love watching you because you remind me so much of the attorneys I worked for in my 20s who were so influential in my life. They're all retired or semi retired now. I got into law school, then got married & we are so happy with 4 kids. If we ever get a law school in my area (Western NC) I'm there :-)

"Being poor is not an excuse for not being neat" (or something to that effect), sure, but being poor often brings with it a host of mental health issues (or vice versa), many of which can make it virtually impossible to "be neat".

25:30 The police don't read you your rights for your benefit, they read you your rights for their own benefit. In the 1966 case, Miranda v Arizona, Ernesto Miranda got his criminal conviction overturned by claiming he did not know he had the right to not answer police questions. As a result, the Miranda warning was created so that would not happen again. You should do a video on the history of the Miranda Warning.

13:04 let’s be clear, under normal circumstances the police cannot peek into a window. That would place them on the curtilage they’re able to do so in this case, because of the community caretaking exception to the fourth amendment warrant law, that is what a welfare check is. Because they’re doing a welfare check they’re allowed on the curtilage. It could even be argued that the smell alone would give them the probable cause to enter the home. It’s actually nice to see that they are erring on the side of caution, and trying to gather more information to be sure they don’t violate anyone’s fourth amendment. Under normal circumstances, if this wasn’t a welfare check, the police are only allowed on the sidewalk approach to your front door and back out to the public sidewalk. They are not allowed to walk around in your yard. They are certainly not allowed to go in your backyard and they for sure are not allowed to peek in your windows. All of those actions would constitute a search under the fourth amendment.

The worst thing about being in jail would be living amongst people like this. Being confined would suck, but it's the people that really make for the prison experience. I remember that from the original Scared Straight when one of the inmates told one of the visiting kids that prison isn't the walls and bars, it's when they "open the door in the morning, and you have to come out and deal with me. That's prison."
