This is why some conventions nowadays have strict rules for asking questions. At SacAnime for example, they have rules posted in the panel rooms about things you're not allowed to ask about (ships, politics, asking people to date/marry you even as a joke, etc) and there's a staff member who vets your questions before they allow you to ask it. Of course, I guess if people still want to be weird, they could whisper an innocent question to the staff member to get mic permission but ask something crazy instead before having their badge revoked for it lol

I once had someone ask me a similar question during a panel... the amount of discomfort I felt was inexpressible at that moment. it was the only time I broke character through the whole thing and as a longtime panelist, it still bothers me. but I shouldn't be bothered. that person should have never asked me if I was single, and they should have never broken the wall by insisting I answer out-of-character. please for the love of God, if you wouldn't ask your parents that question, don't ask a cosplayer. it's as mortifying for us as it is for you when we inevitably have to shut you down because you crossed a line. don't ruin the experience of the panel for everyone by being a weirdo.

I used to be obsessed with cosplay panels (love your work) from pretty much every major anime out at that peak time (2010-2017) and saw A LOT of them on yt in my preteens and when I say every single one without fail had mostly inappropriate questions or super invasive ship questions I would not be exaggerating

I think sometimes people lose sight of reality and assume the voice actors are as into the fandom as they are. It's not uncommon for fans to ask voice actors about ships. The fan is asking for validation, and if the voice actor supports their otp then it is canon. Been going to cons the majority of my life, and there is ALWAYS a fan who asks a cringe and awkward question.

That is INSANE to even do, its giving stalker vibes. 1- The person doesn't know you that well, so don't ask in a CROWD of people. I have an ex friend who would ask embarrassing questions similar to these. This is why I never went out in public with him let alone to a con. He would give me second hand embarrassment to the point I wanted the ground to swallow me whole and I’d have to apologize to people 😭

Conventions tend to bring out quite the _craziest_ and out-of-touch of parasocial fans. A friend of mine back in college witnessed Hetalia Germany fans act like real nazis. Like, even the show didn’t pull that crap. Now, the Hetalia fans have handed the torch to the Genshin Impact fans.
