I picked up Night of the Living Dead, Menace II Society and The Others all 4k for $24.99 each from Amazon because I am still in crutches from ankle surgery. I would have loved to go into my Barnes and Noble but I am having family help me get around and I hate being a burden.

The Others is one of my top discs of the year. Outstanding. No need for HDR. Once you watch you'll understand why the director made that choice. He felt it destroyed the atmosphere he intended.

You can’t beat the plastic wrap from VS - maybe Criterion is trying to lol…nice haul there brother. I’m still recouping from my 70+ haul back in July but I’m undoubtedly going to pick up some this month too. The Trial seems very interesting so it will be going on the list 👍🏼

Kept myself in check this sale. Got EO from the Janus line then also The Others 4K, One Night in Miami, Old Joy, Moonage Daydream 4K, and my spontaneous buy was Mildred Pierce 4K as heard good things on this channel as well as others. I liked the miniseries version with Kate Winslet so interested to see the original.

The Others doesn’t need HDR it looks great without it. Great film nice Atmos mix. Janus contemporaries are not actual Criterion releases they just distribute them. You pronounced La Bamba correctly. The three November Janus contemporaries are all excellent.

I went this weekend. The B&N next to my house is one of the locations that has a HUGE Criterion section. Picked up The Others and Princess Bride.

I went Tuesday and got the Jackie Chan collection, The Others 4K, The Princess Bride 4K, and my wild card Scanners. I didn't realize Criterion did a Blu-ray of that until I was there. My Barnes & Noble didn't have any Sideshow Shocker sets in. I pre-ordered Mean Streets 4K from Amazon. There are some 4Ks I want to upgrade to from my Blu-ray, but will wait until July. Need funds for the $10 4Ks that keep popping up. I also need to keep funds for my Vinegar Syndrome subscription.

I got The Others 4k. Raging Bull 4k, The Elephant Man blu ray, and 1984 blu ray. I just watched Elephant Man for the 1st time the other day, and it was really good. Can't wait to check out the 4k for The Others 4k cause I love that movie. Raging Bull and 1984 will be 1st time watches as well. 1984 was a prediction of the times we are living through now.

Sincere question: Why pay $25-50 for a movie that is probably worth $10 on ebay? Went to B&N and saw Lost Highway for $25. Its $10 forr a new copy on ebay.

Criterion charges 50 bucks for a release with a 12 pages panflet and a 4k disc? Arrow for that price gives you a high quality book and a gazillion extras, also i can tell you as a spanish native speaker that i am, you pronounced perfectly la bamba 👍👍

La Bamba is supposed be pronounced with Spanish vowels. So here is Spanish 101 crash course. For each vowel: a is pronounced like ‘ahh’. Like when the doctor says open your mouth and say ahh. The vowel e sounds like English long a. So the ey sound. The vowel i sounds like English long e as ‘eeeee’. The vowel o sounds like ‘oh’. The vowel u sounds like ‘uuuu’. So La Bamba would sound like Laah Bomb aah. Spanish vowels sound the same everywhere used. Much simpler pronunciation rules than English. So the lyric of the song is “para bailar la bamba”.

Probably a dumb question, but do Criterion covers fit in the standard 4K blu ray cases? I've been tempted to get some of these, but it bugs me that the cases wouldn't match my existing collection

So, I get it. Pronunciations can be challenging. No one is getting them right 100% of the time. But, it doesn't take but a few seconds to find out what the pronunciations should be. Searching RU-vid for La Bamba, there are many videos with examples of the pronunciation. If that's not important to you, that's cool! But, be prepared to have comments from people. Great video, Ken!
